My PI converter was very tight. I had to stand the trans up on end to get it to go on the pump.

The torque converter to flex plate clearance should be .080" - .125". To check this, the transmission should be tight against the block, push the TC toward the back of the transmission, check the clearance between the TC and the flex plate mounting hole. You can use a feeler guage till you get some resistance, add the numbers up. Ideal clearance should be what is stated above. If it falls in this range, bolt it up you are fine. If more than this, post???
