4l60e only lookin for 400hp
im contemplating if the 4l60E will get the job done for 400hp or go with the 4l80e? I have no knowledge about transmissions and am curious to know if i should stick with the 60 and rebuild it? or just go with the 80e?
Conditions of my car:
Never go to the drag strip, street use only
only want 400hp,
have 3200ss stall. with tranny cooler

Heat and High RPM's are the killers of that transmission. You already have a tranny cooler and if you dont intend to raise the rev limiter than your probably pretty safe. The only other thing you may be interested in a shift kit so that they dont have to raise line pressure.
Perfomabuilt is a well like option around here if you were looking to talk to someone in full depth about transmissions or want to get a new one.

A well built 4L60E can take 400 hp for a very long time. There are some mods that should be implemented in order for you to get longevity out of the unit, but it should be just fine if it's built by the right folks.
In order to install a 4L80E one would need to make substantial changes to the car, including a stand alone controller. Not too big a job overall, but I just don't think it is worth the investment in this scenario.

I think I coverer that in the FAQ page on our site and here several times , Its a general guideline and the numbers are based on F body and experince with B body cars. They are only listed so people can get some idea up front about what they need and cost. Each order is reveiwed by me and if someone has not ordered adequatley for there needs I contact them and disscuss it with them. The last page of our order system ask such questions as weight , rear wheel ratio, estimated RWHP ETC.
Hope this clears that up

We do however reveiw every order and in the final page of our order forms theres a place that ask about weight and gear ratio etc, And if we feel a customer has under ordered then we do contact and disscuss it with then the same as when a customer orders a level 2 or 3 for a car that is stock and is going to stay that way and discuss that with them also.
Hope this clears that up

I agree that a 4L80E is over kill for an F-body making 400 HP.
