Yet another ss3600 TCC Lock-up ISSUE

Lock-up issue, chatter/banging
I've had this converter in the car for 2 years now, probably 10k miles on the converter, this whole time i always thought lock-up wasn't working and now that i own hptuners i know it is not. All the tables seemed to be setup properly so today i tried maxing out my misfire tables..low and behold it seemed like the tranny was locking up..
New issue though, the car was bucking, banging and making some horrid drivetrain noise w/lock-up in 3rd/4th..so i shut off lock-up in 3rd and just did 4th gear @ 40mph and up...still can feel it, especially when off the gas. My TCC Duty tables are 100/90 already...
Any ideas/thoughts ???

ok so say this is the problem? any thoughts on remedies...or just say forget lock-up and put my missfire tables back
when it happens it feels like its locking/unlocking as the car bucks and it feels like the drive train is just banging, can even feel it in 4th @70mph a bit

I would'nt be so quick to slam Yank here, that thread title implies their product is faulty when after reading this I don't think it has anything to do with the product. Changing converters and not changing shift tables, TCC management, Misfire Monitors and countless other tables is not conducive to long term satisfaction!!!!! I have seen this several times a month for a very, very long time now. And 9 times out of 10 it is a Tuning issue, not a mechanical issue that causes the symptoms.
It is indeed possible for the TCC enable to be set very close to the TCC disable Tables! I have seen that alot! Guys will begin to make changes, lose track of what is what, throw in the towel and ask for help. That's not a bad thing, we all gotta start somewhere if we are trying to learn something right? But the trick is, knowing when to get the experts involved!
Have someone who is well versed in Tuning take a look at the tables, it could easily be commanding L/U and then releasing it, then reapplying it. Now, that being said it is also possible that the converter clutch is slipping.
I don't think I would be so quick to dog Yank. They produce a fine converter.... remember the converter clutch piston has to be fed hydraulic fluid under pressure before it will apply, the solenoid that opens up takes it's commands from the PCM.
Iwould bet a good lunch and big glass of tea that your symptoms can be alleviated with a good Tuning session form wsomeone who knows what they are doing!
Good Luck!

I would concur I betting on a tuning or engine runing issue , Lockup can amplify a condition that a stall may hide very well. I have driven cars with stalls in the 3500 range that seemed to drive great all the way till lockup came in then suddenly buck a jerk and just feel really bad , The particular car I am speaking of ended up having a cracked porcelin area in a spark plug causing the whole issue, The surging and bucking was a conbination of the converter locking and unlockng due to the missfire and the actual feel of the missfire. He swore it was the converter untill we found the problem.

i wasn't trying to bash yank in anyway, i've had extremely good luck with this converter and its never missed a beat... i never new if the lock-up issue was mechanical or tuning related. After some research i thought i had figured it was tuning, but now im not sure and just trying to figure out how i found out I'm sure your no where near mass ratched..

Actually I think I can give you a place to start you want the lockup to not occur till the rpm and whatever speed it takes to be at that in 3rd and 4th gears when the cam lope begins to or is smoothed out. The cam lope alone will make it surge and jerk if lock up comes in to early

Delete TCC L/U in 3rd gear, entirely, period no mass, no lock up in third gear at friggin all.
Raise the MPH enable to above 55 MPH in 4th gear, and then set TPS % enable to be somewhere near 8%. Getting a picture now.... no lock up if engine is under any sort of a load at all at slow speeds!!!! None, NADA.
Disable TCC L/U if TPS exceeds 13 -15% when enabled.
That is where I alwyas start when trying to set TCC L/U. From there I dial it in by driving the car and looking what it wants during the test drive. It takes time to get Transmission Tuning down, but you'll get it if you stay with it.
Nope, I'm in Texas there buddy! However, I do have a Brother In Law in MD. Is that close to you?
Good Luck.

When logging for trans in vcm scanner what should i see as normal tcc slip? unlock/lock..i know lock should be about 30-40 rpms?

Just wanted to say thanks for all your suggestions, disabled lock-up in 3rd and have it engaging in 4th at about 55mph, works beautiful, i have to play with the release speeds but im getting the idea now. I've never had lock-up working before its great cruising at less than 3k rpms makes it seem like a tamed beast, and better mpg for the win Thanks again!

Cool. Glad it worked out for you!
Hmmmmm,
I wonder how many guys are rolling around out there with improper shift points and erratic TCC operation !??!
TCC is but one of the issues we address when Tuning Transmissions for folks who have modified their powertrain. We offer a Transmission Tuning product in conjunction with our neighbors at Xtreme Horsepower!
If you are interested just get in touch with me as my webmaster has not had a chance to get that published on our site yet! I would be happy to discuss the details with you.
