When does she blow?

When does she blow?
My question is how much will a 4l80-E take. Stock and built?
Since they're alot stronger, and don't take too much to build up I was thinking of doing it myself or getting all of the parts and having a shop do it to save alot of money.
I did a few search's but never found what I was looking for. For a 4l60-E, various companies claim they can build them to handle 700rwhp or so. Wether they do or don't and for how long is the question. I don't want to chance this and have thoughts of a 4l80-E. Have plans for pretty much a street car but with some track use too of coarse, just not much. My future project will be a 408 with a single front mount t80, etc. Power of 650rwhp-800rwhp give or take. Thanks

If it is built decenlty a 4L80E can handle whatever you can afford to throw at it. Seriously. You will have a very hard time breaking that transmission.
It does not even begin to grunt until it sees around 800 hp. They can handle well over 1,000 hp.
Part of any Automotive repair compaines' revenue is the parts markup. It is just how it is... that's business. By taking your own parts in you will not save any money in the long run. Most companies will only increase the labor costs if you choose to supply your own parts. That's just the way it is.
Save your money, buy the transmission and accessories and don't look back. You'll be happy you did.
Good Luck with your car!

Well thats what I thought but there are guys on here that have built them theirselves including all the swap parts, shipping, misc, etc. without going over 3000. The built tranny from a shop will be that much alone, not to mention another 2000 for the converter, swap parts, etc. I figure this would cost about 5000 on the save side. Atleast 4500 anyways. I guess if you know that it would handle anything thrown at it then it would definetly be worth it because thats about the cost of one and a half 4l60-E's. Going with a shop atleast you know its guarenteed to work, well I should hope! You could save 2000 grand and put it elsewhere and still have pretty much the same tranny!

Ya i am definetly going with an 80, I just got one lined up yesterday and a buddy of mine thats a mechanic said he'd build it for me for free +parts. Got to love those guys. Shouldn't cost me too much at all. Just the conversion parts that will add up.
I have done some research and read the sticky but for the guys who have built them theirselves, would you be able to give me the reccommendations for beefing it up. Thanks guys!

no you said in your post you could save 2000 grand, check it out.
just be careful with the 'do it for free' guys they tend to not have a strong customer support program for obvious reasons if you run into trouble.
i dont really know a component recipie sorry, i just instructed my builder to throw the book at it.

I agree to buy it from a reputable shop or company. Things are usually cheap for a reason. MIghty-What stall did you go with, line lock? Also did you get the electronic version?

i put a new slip yoke on my existing driveshaft $180
the trans depending on whats it it should be 2 - 5k
bs3 boxes are around 3k, yes its an entire management system not just a trans controller
the yank is a lock up yes, and as far as the daily, today actually is the first day off the road in several months; i'm sending the 3000 back to get it restalled to 3400, which is as high as yank can go on this size converter.
if i can get the converter shipped out today, i may be back on the road by this weekend.. that would rock.
