How much hp can a stock A4 hold?
Im getting ready to start building a street/strip car and i cant decide what to go with an A4 or M6. How much horsepower can a stock A4 hold compared to the M6? I will be pushing around 400-425hp how long do you think it will hold up to it?

A stock 4L60E behind a heads/cam motor is about as strong as a stock 10 bold behind and heads/cam M6. However a stock M6 will usually handle anything you can throw at it within reason.
Sure, there have been cases were an A4 will last a while stock form, but don't think that it is average. One of the things that kills the A4 in a h/c setup is the rpm's. The stock clutch packs won't hold that kind of power for very long past 6000 rpm.

LoL & TAwhore.
Some of the questions we see here in the Automatic forum are a bit repetative it seems. But, at least it's an honest question. I'm sure the OP is trying to plan a build and budget around it accordingly. I'm pretty sure I have seen that exact thread title more than a few times... a simple search would yield volumes of info on the subject I bet.
My recommendation would be to stay with an A4. Build it with a stock tranny initially. Then start saving for a well built unit for the future. The reason is that an A4 will yield better E.T.'s, it is a proven fact. Plus, you won't be playing the clutch rotation game as time goes on! Some guys actually enjoy doing that, but I don't much care for it personally.
