Best Tranny fluid /// synthetic or not?

NO... you don't want synthetic... stay away, stay far away....
From what I've read synthetic fluid is too slippery and doesn't allow for positive clutch engagement...
Also I ran synthetic in my last tranny and I think that's what aided to it's early demise.
Finally when I talked w/FLP they said to definetly NOT use synthetic. (as a result I'm having my trans flushed, and my converter was sent in to be cut open, drained and inspected)

Re: Best Tranny fluid /// synthetic or not?
Devil's advocate here. I ran Mobil 1 synthetic in the transmission in my '98 Z28 with a Yank 2800 converter with no extra trans cooler for about 40000 miles and numerous 1/4 mile runs with no problems. A converter full of Mobil 1 and changed the fluid and the filter in the pan at the same time as the converter install all with Mobil 1. It was still going strong when I traded the car in with 53000 miles on it. I never changed the fluid after synthetic was installed so it was in there for at least 40000 miles. See times for that car in my sig.

no personal expirence but logically is doubtful they would sell synthetic fliud for trannys if it messed up the tranny not saying that everything for sale os good for your car but theres a awuful lot of syn tranny fluid on the market id think by now it would be clearly known if syn tranny fluid was harmful to your tranny (Imo)

For a Stock tranny do not use synthetic but for a built one with better clutches it will be fine. I run Amzoil Powershift 10W transfluid as recommended by Mike at Yank. its proformed flawlessly.

Re: Best Tranny fluid /// synthetic or not?
i have had 2 aftermarket trannies. i used synthetic on the first one. it broke...it was caused by something else but still it broke, lol. the second one has been in about 2 days and hasn't broke, lol. i was told to use regular because even with the aftermarket clutches it causes them to be to slippery or something along those lines.

I would definitely stay away from the slippery fluids. My tranny had a little slippage on the 2-3 so I went with Ford F type. My shifts are nice and firm now.

In all of my race cars i run half/half as in i quart syn. 1 quart regular. 1 qt syn.....
My stock trans is doing fine but ill be up front and say my car pretty much has no miles on it (127). So from a thousands of miles stand point i cant comment.

I have had Redline in my trans for about the last year and had no shift problems. My trans is built though. IMO, heat is the single worst thing for a trans. Therefore, if synthetic reduces temps then it is a good thing.

I was running Mobil 1 in my car for about 6 months before the Vig Now I have had the TC in for about a month with no problems yet I hope it stays that way... this is the first I have heard of syn not being good for something
