Default Did I over stall my motor?

I moved up from the Vig. 3200 to the Vig. 3600 a little while back. At the same time I added a new Spohn tq arm and also an UD pulley. The car went 12.40at107.6 with the 3200 on Nittos last year. This year I can't beat a 12.66at105.5 on the Nittos. The better weather might explain the 12.40 over the 12.66, but the 60ft is the real problem. The car would 60ft 1.70-1.75 on the Nittos with the 3200 not even full throttle. With the 3600 and the pulley, it can't beat a 1.70 on Nittos or ET streets? Now I can hammer it off just above idle on the slicks and get no spin and still only run a 1.70? Did I get too much stall for my motor? My car is: 99TA- 3600lbs. w/driver, K&N/lid, 85mm maf, Mac headers/ORP, Borla catback, LS1 edit, sfc's, tq arm, lca's, built 4L60E, trans-go, Vig.3600, 3:23 gears. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Could be several variables such as:
Converter too loose.
Is the STR still the same?
You could call the Vig tech guys and see what they say.
I went from a 3000 stall w/2.0 STR down to a 2400 stall w/2.55 STR and car pulls much harder and drives better.

I think the STR is still the same as before. I did not ask them to change it. Did your 1/4 mile improve with the higher STR?

Plenty of guys run fast with the Vig 3600 and bolt-ons, it is not too much stall. What size slicks did you get? The 26x11.5x16 ET Streets hurt my 60' when i had 3.23s (switched from nittos).

According to Yanks website, the Vig3200's STR is 2.17 w/94% efficiency. While the 3600's STR is 2.37 w/92% efficiency.

So in theory you should have better sixty foot times w/slightly less MPH (due to less efficiency).

My best time w/my 3200 is in the sig (DA was -350) and after switching to the 3600 my best pass is an 11.71 @ 115.00 (1.56) w/the DA around -1150.

I have a Yank PT4400 now (not installed yet), so I'm jumping ship.

Worse weather will greatly affect your 60' time. Run in good weather and you will be faster with the Vig 3600.

I have the 26X10.5X16 ET streets courtesy of XFiveLiter. I just can't believe that with the slicks I could not launch harder. So you think the 3600 is a good converter for just the bolt ons. I knew that 60ft would be affected by weather, but it seemed to be more than just weather. The DA was about 500 higher. What 60ft should I expect with my mods and weight, from this converter? Thanks for ckecking the STR's Mark.

I am gonna buy the weather being a big part of the problem. I hate 66 though Mike. They are so freakin expensive now. I don't think that place is worth $35 for test n tune. The track is no doubt the best I've ever raced on, but the tech and staging lanes are soooo slow. I wanna go this week, I might hit 41 on Wed.

We need more info.

I have seen your car at US41 but am unfamiliar with your mods...

You should be going high 1.5's with boltons no problem. I see folks with the PI 3200 doing mid 1.6's with stock internals.

So you think I should be 1.5's without a cam or heads John? My mods list is in the first post. I am stock internals until I get this thing going like it should. It feels like the car comes out fine for the first few feet, then seems to lose power. I need to find out if it is the pulley causing knock retard out of the hole. Did anyone else have that problem from a pulley?

Sometimes with a bigger converter you end up with lower shift points have you checked that? If your car is short shifting you'll run thru the gears too fast.

I'd say low 12's at 3600 raceweight, ~1.58-1.62 short times. My PI 3600 flashed to 4300 with heads and cam.

Okay, I will check the shift points. I forgot that the bigger converter might drop them. I would say I flash to just short of 4100 or so. I do think it shifts a little early, but I thought the tach was just a little off cause it couldn't keep up. Thanks for the help.

If you have a high rev limiter, you can also experiment by manually shifting a gear you think is too low. It's hit or miss, half the time I'll tap the rev limiter but it can give you an idea of whether the car will pick up. I think shifting around 6100 for both shifts would rock.

I'd experiment with launch too, I used to foot up the converter to about 1200 and let her rip. My Yank stuff liked to be footed up to 2500 or more they were very different.

I can never get the car to shift manually. It way over shoots when I shift. I try to read the difference and shift early, but it shifts to soon then. It can't hurt to try though, well it might hurt the valvetrain, but I need new stuff anyways. It shifts at 5750 on the 1-2. I was told the stock tach can't keep up with the motor though? I have tried to leave stalled up, but it runs 1.73's like that. I get the best results leaving at 1200 or so. Even when XFiveLiter tried, he could not do better, and he races more than John Force! He is also 40lbs lighter than me and could not get the car to go any faster. I think the car is cursed. What mph should I see with the 3800 and my other mods? I thought 105 was a little low. The car ran 105 with just a lid and filter/flowmaster catback! I would of thought the headers and ORP would of put it up to 108 or more? It did go 107 with Mark driving last year.

Why do you think those tires hurt your 60 ft times? I've heard that they are taller than the stock tires by a decent amount so you lose some gear. Is that what you think the problem was? The reason I asked is becuse I run those exact same tires and my 60s are less than great. They still spin a little too. Several people told me to get some 26x10x15 ET Drags or hoosiers in that same size. I hear the difference in traction between either of those and what I have is night and day. I don't think they are as tall, so I can gain some gear back.

Later,
Jordan
