Guys the whole issue regarding Converter stall speeds is that a converters ability to lock the stator at a given rpm is directly related to the amount of energy being put into it.
Example....
A converter is targeted for a 3000 rpm stall behind a 500 h/p engine. It operates as designed when installed.
Now, take that same converter and install it behind an engine that makes 800 h/p. It will stall significantly higher.
Put it behind a 200 h/p engine and it might not ever stall, in fact it might be so tight the engine will not idle.
This is the reason many, many converter manufacturers will restall a converter at no cost at least one time. 9 times out of 10 when dealing with similar combinations the converter manufacturers can and do get the stall speed correct. But, again, it is not uncommon to see a converter need to be restalled in a given combination.
Hope that helps...

Funny!! I have a PTC stall converter in my car. When I was just boltons the car would stall to 3600rpm. After the H/C/I and the 4.11 gear in the rearend it would only stall to 2800rpm. PTC said it was because I wasn't making as much torque at the lower rpm range as I was before but making more torque at higher rpms. When I was boltons the car made peak torque at arouns 3400-3800rpm. With my new setup I am making peak torque at 4800rpm hense why we restalled the converter. Now it's a 4400rpm stall.
