Default Best fluid for a race T400?

I put a T400 in the car, along with a 5000 stall. I also have a transbrake. I just added a B&M race transcooler.

What fluid do you guys reccomend?

I heard I need 10 qts.

I just use the cheap stuff but I change it every couple weeks.. I get a warm fuzzy feeling by dropping the pan and checking things out...

John: You might check with the supplier of the clutch packs to see if they have any recommendations. Some of the slippery (i.e. more expensive brands) like redline might give a couple more HP if the line pressure and clutch packs will hold under your power level.

I'd be inclined to use a basic product and change it regularly.

For a race tranny, I really like the B&M Trickshift. It's kinda like F-type in that it has great friction properties (as in, the clutches grab hard) but unlike F-type, it has anti-foaming properties like Dextron.

But, if you plan on changing the stuff often, Trickshift could get expensive. That's why I use good 'ole Dextron III.

Would it be a bad idea to use Type F in a street/race driven TH400? I was at the local speed shop and asked and he said don't waste your money on the B&M stuff, just buy Type F. He knows what the truck is capable of also. Any opinions on this? TIA.

I know Rossler told Tom (nbm00ws6) to use a 50/50 mix of Dexron and the Ford stuff. Must be some kind of top secret mixture

Good post, as I will need to fill mine for the first time in a few weeks.

For you guys draining every few trips to the track, do you cahnge the filter also? Or just change out the fluid?

I got over 5000 miles on my tranny, haven't changed the fluid yet...still has the nice pinkish color to it, it sees mostly daily driving, when should I change it....

I'm running the deep pan, 12 qts, and have an extra bottle of the regular ATF stuff...

I just installed a 42,000 GVW cooler on my trans braked RMVB T400 and tapped a temp sensor into a Summit cast pan. I think this set up will work well. By the way is there any difference in filters, I thought I read somewhere trans brakes required more fluid flow, thus a less restrictive filter????

Sorry about that, that's what happens when you use the search feature and have had about 8 or 10 beers. My bad.

If you use the good stuff, you won't have to change it every 50 runs or so. I have found over the years that Lubrication Engineers Monolec 7500 to be the best when it comes to durability in most all situations. This fluid runs cooler than Dexron type of fluids, and will take more heat. Do your homework when it comes to oils, and stay away from the advertisements.
