LS1 4l60e into 94 LT1 Formula
Ive been searching for hours now. I cant find A clear answer. My tranny is going out and Im looking for a temporary replacement. A buddy of mine has an ls1 4l60e for sale and Im curious as to if it will work with my lt1. From what ive reasearched ive come up with the bell housings are different but thats about it. Is there anybody who can give me some clear advice on this topic?

it wont ive asked before also...has to do with the leingth of the converter, the lt1 tranyn will work in a ls1 since its deeper...but not a ls1 in a lt1 because the converter cant be made that short
i think its only 5/16 an inch off???
i always thought they could take that off the mounting tabs on the converter...

no cant swap bellhousings...he lt1 is non removeable
and no the lt1 converter wont work in a ls1...differant...
lets just leave it at it cant be done...if it could somebody would just make a custome converter for the swap...and have no changed to the tranny itself...but no1 has and it cant be done....

Not only is the LS1 trans bellhousing Deeper to accommodate for the bigger torque converter, but the internal electronic components and valve body are different. The 3-2 downshift sol. is pwm in 1994 and on 96-up trannys have an on-off 3-2 sol. and the valve body also changed to accommodate for this change. Also in 1995-up the 4L60E trans has added a tcc pwm solenoid which the 1994 trans did not have. It is possible to install an LS1 trans in a LT1 car but you must change the bellhousing, pump stator, input drum, valve body from a 94 trans with all electronics, seperator plate, and wiring harness.

Actually from a mechanical stand point it can be done we did when we were using the astro dyno before we got a dyno. Converter was custom built then modified.
Electronically again Yes it can be done requires elimination of the 3-2 regulator valve like is done in the transgo kit and elimination of the function of the converter clutch regulator valve like we do to all our units, Then its just a matter of swapping the 3-2 solenoid as its a different ohm load, The PWM is not and issue though it must remain in place to block a hole in the valve body.
But really you would be better off just getting the right style 4l60e for you application

Im planning my LS1 swap, and if its too much hassle to make it work I can always go with the newer style 4l60e, but I would like to be able to keep my trans.

Just to clarify a one thing. A few of you guys have said that you need to change the bellhousing on the LS1 4L60E's for them to fit on a LT1. This is completly wrong. You just don't use the very top bolt hole. And honestly my friend didn't go through all the trouble you guys make it out to be. He used an LS1 converter and I believe he had to modify the holes in his flex plate a little. But thats all he did. The Transmission he has had was not built to go into a LT1. It was a built 4L60E though. Not sure who it was built by, but it came from San Antonio.
But as stated earlier, his car was a 97.
