Default 2011 Scion TC will be RWD

http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2008/11...subaru-co.html

Rumors that Toyota will market its Subaru co-developed rear-wheel-drive coupe as a Scion in America have been swirling around the net ever since the two Japanese automakers made their plans official this spring. But now we've received word that it's true. According to our inside source, Toyota officials in the U.S. confirmed that the affordable RWD coupe will indeed arrive in the States in late-2010 / early-2011 as the new Scion TC. Further details weren't provided but from what we know up until now, both the Toyota / Scion and Subaru variants of the two-seater compact coupe will get an all-new platform with power coming from a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder boxer engine producing around 200HP.

Good stuff, about time we get something performance oriented from Toyota.

In my mind(and a lot of people under 25), a Toyota is a stodgy, dull, boring car your parents/grandparents drive. They've tried to sell Scion as a performance brand, but the marketing can't hide they're just generic economy cars with weird styling.

Good news IMHO, we can never have enough RWD platforms. They handle pretty well in FWD trim, hope it only gets better with the drivetrain swap. I say it could be a lil quick car if they can put down 220-250whp. Given the fact that they weigh sub 3000lbs.
They are currently putting down a whopping 150whp But have seen 300whp+ on stock motor with turbo kit.

I love the idea of making the tc RWD, but damn that thing is ugly.
Also i can see a bunch of young teens putting these cars into a ditch because of them not knowing how to drive a RWD car.

^^^ I had that thought earlier, but i do like the idea that they will be going that direction. Kids these days need to learn that RWD is a proper and superior setup for performance cars. They can keep their cheapo FWD cars for their commute to work.

I didn't actually see the picture til right now, not impressed. Looks kinda like they copied the popular late model Sentra Se-R front bumper, before they changed it to the flat gay looking one.

I screamed in terror when I saw the picture. That is easily on the list of top 10 ugliest cars I have ever seen. Funny enough, they're all Japanese.

I doubt the production model will actually look like that. It's about time they had some sense and made it RWD though. I don't know why companies try to pitch their cars as performance machines when the front wheels do the driving. If GM made the Cobalt RWD I'm pretty sure there would have been more purchased by consumers.

Of course Toyota's idea of affordable and my idea of affordable are two different things....

I'd like to see that car at under 20k, but you know Toy will put it over that...
