Agree with you, it's finally great to see the Mustang GT back on the board. The thing has been so underpowered for so many years. It's just to bad the economy is crap or we'd see a lot of these on the road. I still think we'll see a few though the first year.

Awesomeness. Finally Ford put a car that can compete with the current Camaro.

Mustangs have always sold well. This will just seal the deal even more so.
You HOPE it doesn't? Why they hell not? Even if you don't like Mustangs, this just means a hotter fire is going to be under GM's butt to give bowtiers a better car in the long run.
It's a win/win situation for BOTH cars.

It will light a fire under GM, but as previously stated, how far can they go with that 2 ton bertha they gave us. Most definitely I wanna see the Mustang do well, but in advance I hope to never meet one of these face to face with my car in its bolt-on form. Guess it will light a fire under the after-market more than GM. OEM refinement is really getting up there, but so is the price... The only hope [for us f-body guys] is that the after-market is slow with the 5.0, unless it is a variant of the 4.6 (like all of the LSX technology to date), at which point we will be in a very close competition.

I heard it used the same block as the 4.6... but they modified it a bit. Different heads etc.
Had GM not made the 2010 Camaro, you better bet Ford would have still used the 4.6 and we'd have a 330hp GT in 2011. Competition is good. It's why socialism sucks.
Doesn't GM already have a 500+hp Camaro?
I just hope the new GT likes boost as much as the old one did.. With the stock compression ratio it comes with.. I question that.

Camaro came in way too heavy, that's all there is to it. They're going to have to drop 300 to 400 lbs off the weight of the car, or they're not going to be able to compete.
Only other option, would be to put the ls7 in the ss camaro, which could be possible with the new zr1 having a step up.
One thing GM never does, is put a motor in a camaro that's better then what's offered in the vette. They will, put the same motor in though. We can hope for an ls9... but the price hike that will cause will put it out of the price range it needs to be in.
Ls7, or a substantial weight reduction are the only answers.
The new 5.0 mustang is attractive for sure... and is going to cause GM, and probably Dodge to have to do something to keep up.

The GM guys that are all worried about the new Mustang crack me up. These are good times to be living in for a car guy. You have so many cars to choose from for your arsenal. Just enjoy the ride.
The more I think about it, the less I think GM will do anything to the SS. What are they going to do? They can't put an LS7 in it, because that would hurt MPG, and be faster than a base Corvette. I think it is what it is, unless they do some sort of weight reduction.

I think most GM guys aren't worried about the new Mustang.....I think most are happy to see a competitive Mustang again. I for one am thrilled to see this. I personally prefer the looks of the new Stang over the new Camaro. Stock for stock, I believe the Mustang is going to put a hurting on Dogde and GM.
As for aftermarket, we all know the potential of the LSx motors....I am anxiously waiting to see what the 5.0 is capable of. Once you start modding, everything changes....looks like the fun factor just went up a notch!!

To me a car is a car. I will drive whatever car does what I want best within my budget. I would never buy a car just because its the best GM has to offer, when Ford or Chrysler are making a better car.
So for a guy like me, its pretty cool to see Ford stepping up to the plate with something I could afford. However, this car is great in stock form, I am just not that confident it will do well with modifications. Modability is a big thing for me, and most of you too.

A mature attitude is great. It is cool to get great competition. Hopefully like I said, it doesn't put GM behind the curve (is retro played out a little by now?). I hope they get their stuff together...

This might be a little speculative at this point, but the scuttlebutt a few months ago was that IF there was going to be a 6th-Gen Camaro, it would be on a smaller-car platform than the Zeta it currently is pinned to. So odds are we'll see a smaller, lighter Camaro in the future if GM gives the nod to a Gen VI. Back to the Present....
I think that both companies have very, very good cars. Both should sell well. Which is good for both companies and the auto industry's recovery. I've sat in both the 2010 Mustang and Camaro, and I honestly would have to do a back-to-back test drive to see which one i'd end up in. That is, if I wasnt going to by a slightly-used C6, which is likely the route I'm going.

Now you have GM making a quick car to meet anyones needs, (Camaro, Cobalt, Corvette, TBSS, CTS-V), you have Ford making the Mustang with alot of options (GT, GT500, KR, and also the Tauras SHO) you have Dodge making all the SRT vehicles, which like GM, they make a quick car for everyone (SRT4 Caliber, SRT8 Jeep, 300, Charger, Challenger, SRT10 Viper). There are a whole lot of choices in the domestic market.
Now, unlike the 60's, you have other companies joining in. You have STI's, Evo's, GTR's, and way too many others to list.
You get my point. If you have the money, you have options.
