Default Ford's 5.0 is Back

Just released today and u can find the release on Ford's website that the 2011 Mustang GT will have an aluminum block and head NA 4v 5.0. It puts out 412 hp and 390 tq. The 11 Stang GT will also have bigger brakes and 6 speed manual and autos and have better gas mileage than the current 10 model.
BTW: I got a 2002 SS and a 2008 GT / CS convert. Be happy folks.

Awesomeness. Finally Ford put a car that can compete with the current Camaro.

I think it'll do a little more than compete with it at that power level, and being essentially the same weight as the current GT. Looks like, for the first time since the Fox body days, the Mustang GT may just be quicker than the Camaro SS.

That's no lie... They need to put that new Camaro on a strict diet...

Glad to see the power coming up to par. I have a good few mustang fanatic friends, that will be very happy. One or two I have turned to the Camaro, largely because of power. Honestly I find the looks taking a step backwards with each model update they have done since the 05 restyle. You said only 10 more lbs than the current 2010..? On that examiner article, on the specs sheet page, it claimed Curb weight, lbs. = 3,875 - 4,000 lbs. on the 2011 model. The current 2010 I thought was around 3533 or so..? I didn't see curb weight for the v8 listed on fo-mo com Can anyone confirm or post a link to another article that clears curb weight up?

Interesting stuff Unit.

I wonder if Chevy will do anything to the SS to stay competitive. They aren't going to get rid of weight, and I can't see them doing anything else to the LS3.

Won't that really only matter if you're trying to go heavy on the FI?

I imagine Ford's answer would be "mod a GT500".

According to everything I've read, including Fords Media web outlet, the new 5.0 motor has a forged steel crankshaft, forged steel rods, cast aluminum pistons, 11.1:1 compression ratio, tuned tubular exhaust headers, 8 quart deep sump oil pan, and a 7,000 rpm redline! If true, I haven't found the downside to this!

If the Camaro has to go too much farther with the power they are looking at a huge price increase. Any word on the MSRP of the 5.0?

Thumbs up

I'm liking this new 5.0L Mustang GT a lot, I think it could be a pretty exciting car overall.
Even the V6 gets a big kick in the *** with 305hp from it's 3.7L Duratec V6.

LOL! You're excused. I haven't found any photos of the internals on this motor. Seems all the pictures available just showcase the intake/fuel rail cover and five-oh badge.

Yep, the first time I can say badass and mustang GT about a car coming from the factory in my life I'm excited to see the first mustang that's been quicker than it's base V8 camaro rival since 1992.

Actually that appeared to be a video which showed its RPM capability. I saw no results... Though I must say, I hope it doesn't live up to the hype.
