Agree. The 1999 GT should have had a 4v engine.

Just got my copy of 5.0 magazine in mail today. They got about a 20 page spread on the new 5.0 motor. Lots and lots of detail. Through the years Ive had Mopar, GM, and Ford. Loved them all and we should all enjoy and support the great musclecar revival while we still have it. Cheers boys and girls.

Any way you could scan that in for everyone? I don't get that magazine, but would love to read about it.

I just noticed today in Forza 3 that the 93 mustang cobra R is listed as a 4.9L

even forza/Turn 10 understands that 302 =/ 5.0 liters, why can't Ford?

The connecting rods are forged powdered metal and the pistons are hyper-eutectic.
Figures.

And hopefully not the last, even though we have all these stupid fuel regulations that manufactures have to meet.

I am glad this came out. I was about to buy one of the new SS's but I want this 5.0 instead. The weight and the engine are right!!!

Good job GM, you created a pig.

more like the end of an era

increasing safety standards + increase mileage standards + increasing emissions standards = back to the 70s

Unlike the 70's, I think we have the technology to get past the more strict regulations. We may or may not have V8's in the future, but I think they could easily make small CI FI motors to meet our performance needs, but also meet the strict regulations.

Only time will tell what the manufacturers will do, but there is a future in performance with these strict regulations if the manufacturers choose to produce the cars.

Who cares about n/a. FI is where the gains are. Rather it was slower stock but was FI friendly.

Pardon the ignorance about to surface, but why is it not FI friendly?

hypereutectic pistons do not enjoy boost...neither does 11:1 compression. Makes for too much detonation = engine boom :/

Because of the pesky scientific conventions of rounding. The 4.9 L 302's ended up right around 4940 (I know it's not exactly right) cubic centimeters. If it was 4950 (or greater without going over 5049), it would be a 5.0. If it helps, it is a 5 L engine (rounding to the nearest Liter), but cannot add the ".0" after the "5" and still be correct, as that rounds to the nearest 1/10th of a Liter. So apparently Forza/Turn 10 failed 4th grade science class. The new engine is slightly bigger and rounds to a true 5.0 Liter.
