2011 Mustang 5.0L V8 Dyno Test
#281
Well that, and the fact that owners have already been running Camaros for several months. Fastest time I've seen was 12.58 @ 109mph IIRC. There is absolutely no reason why the Mustang GT shouldn't equal that at the very least.
#282
Stock record on camaro5 is 12.58 @ 110
Yes the GT should be able to equal this. But what about all the talk of spankings being handed out?
Also...I dont know why anyone with a camaro would be scared with a 6.2 ls3 under the hood that can make over 500rwhp NA.

Like everyone intelligent has been saying, it's gonna be a driver's race with the edge to the GT. And all we can do is speculate about the amount of power it can make N/A, but there are versions of this motor used in the recent past that have been 550hp at the crank.
#284
No matter what proof is shown or what anyone says, nothing will change the mind of the Mustang nutswingers. They could have made these 1/4 mile passes themselves and there would be some excuse why the Mustang didn't run faster. Bottom line, after all the hype, the Stang didn't deliver the *** whooping that it was supposed to.

For the new 5.0 to make over 600hp on pump gas NA with simple aftermarket head and cam swaps would have to be nothing short of a miracle.
#286
the stuff that works on pushrod v8s doesnt apply to modulars; this is very hard for some of you to understand.
#287
Anyways, why do you guys think DOHC is the newest and best technology? Just because?
#288
So I guess the new 5.0 will make 600 horsepower by adding long tubes, CAI and cams since it doesnt need heads. (which I dont know or care either way, I am talking about max NA power potential which you dodged and made a stupid 3rd grade reply anyway)
Awesome.
Let me know when it happens...but I am guessing hell will freeze over first.
#289
At the end of the day there is more potential in the LS3, from an all-motor standpoint no doubt, but getting the power they did out of 302 c.i. is rather impressive and I think does show there are *some* advantages to DOHC technology. Just sayin'.

All this talk about what the Camaro will run with this and that added to it is moot. The discussion was about stock to stock. I could add 5 turbos to a yugo .. you see where I am going. :p (yes I know 5 turbos is obnoxious, silly, but you get my point)
WTF are you going on about?

I guess we should declare this "Disgruntled GM Fanboy Day". Ford has finally put out a Mustang that can hang with or even best its Camaro counterpart. Obviously there's going to be a lot of whining about it. The two cars are going to be a straight up driver's race 9 times out of 10, so at long last we've got a good competition going. I see no need for whining from either camp at this point.

Huh? I don't recall anyone (who matters) saying that the new GT was gonna walk all over the Camaro. I was expecting the new GT to be a couple tenths quicker at the most.....and that's exactly what the first test numbers have delivered.

Duly noted. But until there's some info to that fact all we can do is compare what we know. We all knew the 5.0 was coming long ago.....but GM is being tightlipped about what they have in store for the 2011 year model. More than likely they haven't decided what they want to do yet, although a performance gear option certainly sounds like a good way to go. Sadly, I can see GM just turning up the wick rather than improving the car's overall dynamics (ie: weight). Let's hope these early tests show GM that it isn't always about the power figures. Any SS owner can slap in a tune and make more power than Chevy will be likely to provide in an update.....so seeing the 2011 Camaro move up to 430 or 440 hp isn't going to impress me. Get the car to do more with the power it has, that's the way to go IMO.

Yeah, it kind of does. Why the **** do I need to read mustang ads on a GM site? Do they not think about the target audience before they allow ads on this site? How about some honda ads too, maybe viagra or tampax? Its ******* stupid. Odds are they are not going to sway anybody to buy a mustang from this site.

I think a gear swap and maybe a more agressive tune or updated cam would be all it would take to one up the mustang again.
#298
Agreed. At least two of the Mustang forums I frequent had ads for the new Camaro run for several months after it came out. These sites need money to function. One company's money is as green as another's. Besides which, if no one here on LS1Tech could possibly be swayed into buying a new Mustang......then what harm is it doing you or anyone else to see an advertisement for it here????

Might wanna check out the M/T track results.
I'll have to give them credit on the V6 and GT they both ******* MOVE (better than expected to be honest)

Yea, I think most educated guys around here figured the GT would be within a couple tenths of the SS. But I don't think very many of us saw a nearly mid 13 second sixxer coming.....
Definitely the big surprise here.
