All I know is this....its sad and pathetic that is impossible in this site to have a mature conversation about the type of car we are supposed to love. What, does GM pays your ******* bills???

Yep folks, the new 5.0 Ford motor is a GREAT contender so face that fact and be prepared when these stock Mustangs with the 5.0 start to smoke those stock new, heavy ***, tanks named Camaros.

Yes I saw those, I think it said 3605 pounds for the manual V8 coupe (a little more for the automatic and even more yet for the convertible obviously) but I thought that those might just be preliminary numbers, maybe not.
If the numbers are accurate then I stand by my original prediction/statement, that a Mustang could weigh upwards of 250 pounds less than a similarly optioned Camaro, that's a lot.

Because in those 13 or 14 years Ford never made a car faster than the Camaro?
Ook.

Ford has been making Mustangs faster than the Camaro for those 13/14 years. You specifically speaking about the GT. Which isn't Ford's fastest Mustang. Hell the Mustang isn't even Ford's fastest car.

Interesting thread to read. Seems like the topic always gets heated when we get talking about one of the greatest Automotive Rivalries of all time... Mustang vs Camaro.

The new Mustang GT will be a great car, and I dont think anyone will be able to say otherwise. In the last couple years, Ford has stepped up its game in its entire vehicle lineup. I'd expect nothing less from them in they're refreshed Mustang. At least nowadays, unlike in the LS1 days, us GM guys cant complain about Camaro being outsold by an inferior Mustang... ZING!! It'll be on a level playing field.

I kinda predict that Ford will get to Play on the 5.0 how Mopar played on new Hemi. It'll draw a bunch of people who had the "old" 5.0 into Ford Dealerships. Only makes sense. Nostalgia/racing heritage can sell cars. I'm just glad that there are high-quality American products that have mass appeal.

The new 5.0 is still not a "true" 5.0 is it? Just like the new hemis aren't really "true" hemis.

Either way, what is going on is best for everyone involved. If Ford ends up having a faster car, GM isn't going to stand still for long. Faster cars for everyone from the showroom.

I mean 415hp is just nuts for a stock GT. I wonder how much RWHP it makes. If it's underrated like the Mach1 was.

I don't think there are many disputing that the new 5.0 will be a contender for the camaro. The argument seems to be about the 4.6 ford engine being junk. I'm personally glad that there will be a good match between the SS and GT. When the Z28 comes out I'm sure it will be a great contender for the Cobra. Same story..

Actually a whole lot more goes into it than just firing order because the 4.6 ford and likely also the new 5.0 have the same firing order as a LS motor

many of the old ford 5.0's had the same firing order as the sbc's as well

it just doesn't seem like it when looking at the firing order because of ford's "unique" way of numbering their cylinders compared to chevy and chrysler

the official weight for the 2011 gt is 3605 not ANY heavier with standard equipment.

im deleting the spoiler and HID lights from the factory delete option. mine will weight a little less than 3605. probably 15-20lbs less. two ballasts and a spoiler less.

once i change the driveshaft to a one piece, change the flywheel to aluminum, replace the radiator support with tubular, remove the front strut tower brace, z-member, change the rims to light weight forged, change the front and rear control arms to adjustable chrome moly, it will weight a lot less. get used to stangs having just as much power and weighing hundreds less.

The S-197 chasis has full aftermarket support.

I think I read it has the firing order of the Y-block engines.

Actually this article has the manual 6 speed coming in at 3,875 and the auto coming in at a staggering 4,000lbs.

Info is old and incorrect. I still don't know where those figures came from, or why they were released. Even the convertible GT will weight less than 3800 lbs.

So you weighed your new 2011 GT already?

No, I weighed everyone else's.

Trust me, the new GT isn't going to weigh over 3800 lbs. The only thing that's changed is the drivetrain......and the new tranny and motor don't weigh 300-400 lbs more than the outgoing ones.

It's all bout price groups, so generally speaking he was correct. The 03/04 Cobras are faster than the LS1's stock, but since they debuted to no competition it's hard to say they "won" those years, and we all know the >01 Cobra's weren't up too par (not that they aren't great cars)
Of course Ford made cars faster than a camaro in this time, but never one that directly competed with it. (GT's are for pissing off exotics).
Ford does a great job with the Mustang, but it gets lost in trying to compete with two different types of sports cars from GM.

Eh, I'll never own one...probably not a newer SS for that matter so it doesn't really matter to me. It'll still probably run 13s if the traction is anything like the Shelby.
