Sorry...I have as much respect for the new Mustang as anyone else out there, but you can't say with certainty that Ford will hold this lead for any length of time. You can bet the Camaro will carry a few more ponies and a new suspension option next year, and as was mentioned before, Ford really doesn't do that kinda thing.
Ford had no want/need to make the '03-'10 Mustang GTs any faster than they did. And the '11 SS isn't going to have anything meaningful done to improve performance.

They need to revive the SS reputation. GM has overly abused the SS badges to sell econo buckets.

the SS was GM's base performance package in the 60's....

It takes some good driving and a few bolt-ons for a new SS to run those times. I've been a GM guy all my life, but the new 5.0 is a quicker, better handling, not to mention overall better car then the new Camaro.
I was going to say the same. Side by side? no. I guess it's side by side in the way a LS1 fbody and a 03/04 Mach1 are side by side..
