Too bad subcompacts aren't donig all that great over here. Although, I guess that boy-racerfying it might help it move a little better amongst the younger markets.

Oh yay...yet another entry into a market that everyone said America had to have but no American wants to enter.
Everyone wants these cars to exist, but they all want someone else to buy them.

It has a 1.4L 4cyl, expected to hit north of 40mpg, and put out 101hp. They also have a turbo version that puts down upward of 170hp, so things might get a little interesting if they try and go after the turbo Mini S.
They are going to start at $15,500

"The 2012 Fiat 500 touched down in the U.S. last week at the 2010 L.A. Auto Show, where it reintroduced the Fiat brand to thousands of Americans.
Dubbed the Cinquecento in Italy, the 2012 Fiat 500 recalls the styling of the original 500 of the ‘60s and ‘70s—which has become a pop culture icon in its own right.
Pedigree
After a 27-year absence, Fiat is returning to the U.S. market with the help of its new partner, Chrysler. And the Italian automaker couldn’t have picked a better car for its American comeback. The 2012 Fiat 500 is a small car with a lot of character and is intended to take on quirky ultra compacts like the upcoming Scion iQ and the pricier 2011 MINI Cooper.
Power
With its 1.4-liter MultiAir 4-cylinder engine, the 500 delivers 101 horsepower while sipping fuel at a slow, steady pace. While the exact EPA mpg numbers haven’t been released yet, we believe the 500 should easily hit 40 MPG.
Price
But the best part about its unveiling at the L.A. Auto Show is the announcement of the 500’s base price. The 2012 Fiat 500 will start at $15,500 and will come with a 3-year complimentary maintenance program. That goes a long way in dispelling any previous misconceptions Americans might have had about a Fiat’s reliability.
With all this talk about fuel economy and pricing, we’ve forgotten to mention just how good this car looks. See for yourself on Fiat’s homepage, where you can put together your very own 500.
The 2012 Fiat 500 will go on sale sometime in January 2011."

wtf, I can't FIT comfortably in a car like that. I mean, I'm sure some one will buy it, but until humans start getting smaller, I'll drive a normal sized car lol. My GFs cobalt makes me feel like the jolly green giant as it is.
NOW, if it had some nice styling, like the Lotus Elise. I might sacrifice some comfort for it.

Haha...well i'm sure it would put on a few lbs, not to mention it would probably be easier to convert to RWD than trying to stuff both an engine and transmission under that Pug nose of a hood. However, I could definitely have fun in a 2300lbs fwd hemi 500. I wouldn't be winning any auto-x's, but I would still smile ear to ear roll racing everyone I come across and just otherwise being a hooligan.
