the cts-v is a great car to compare this to as far as how fast this car will be.

Well, you have to admit, this one does purport to have a fair amount more engineering and thought put into it. With a warranty.

Who knows, it might be able to turn some pretty nice lap times too, but it's too early to tell.

Also I like this car but I think gm dropped the ball by chaping out on the motor. The gt500 has the upphand because of a more stout engine that can run high boost levels.

I think they should take a 4.3 beef it up to a 5.0 "true to the original 302 z28" and throw a supercharger on that while making it a stripper car with lightweight 17 inch wheels...

Cross that 4.3. Meant 5.3 to a 5.0..... Stupid mobile version doesn't let me edit it.... But ya , 5.3 destroked or whatever to a 5.0. Or a 4.8 to a 5.0. I think then it would be a real z28

Should be nice to see this compete against the Shelby! Shelby may up there HP number now on the 2012 Gt500. The Shelby is Fords top performance car and since they dont have nothing to compete with the Vette, they dont want their top performance car to lose to a Camaro in sales or performance especially in its inauguration. The ZL1 is an estimated 550 hp but I believe the final number will be at least 556 like the CTS-V. My guess for HP is about around 556-565 for the final number! Shelby GT500 vs Camaro ZL1! Thinks should get interesting and heat up quick!

Its looks BAD *** though! Cant wait to see the test numbers on it. As far as price in concerned, it will definitely be priced right where the GT500 is of course just like how the SS and 5.0 are closely priced.

Here's the GT500 up against the LSA CTS-V.

The ZL1 will be more than a match for it.

The ZL1 will definitely be more than a match for the GT500 as it is right now. Im sure the 2012 Gt500 will have significant upgrades rather it is Hp/TQ, suspension, wider more sticky tires for traction (which would help tons) etc.

As far as this video, throw some wider tires on that Shelby with more grip and that CTS-V doesnt stand a chance! A better driver should be able to beat a CTS-V even with stock tires. MM&FF ran a stock 2010 540hp Shelby to an 11.9 bone stock. Shelby's knock has always been small tires on high HP cars which doesnt mix well at all being rear wheel drive.

It will be a bit lighter (about ~150lbs my guess looking at SS at 3860) than the V. It also has an electric power steering pump. That is worth about 5-10 hp and the weight will help also. And thats if they dont change anything else. A different tune, different exhaust etc is not out of the question.

The SLP ZL585 ran 0-60 in 3.6 seconds and 11.5 @ 122 on street tires with motor week driving. ZL1 performance should be close to this I would think. The ZL-1 also has 3.73 gears and I think the 585 has stock 3.45 gearing. The 585 also starts at 56k.

this car is in z06 territory for sure.

Should be interesting!

Oh man... I would love to see Ford do a 4v version of the new 6.2 for 2012 or 2013. That would be one BAD ****.

Actually, it may not be. According to an interview, they have put a lot of time into what they are calling "mass reduction." They say the wheel/tire package is lighter than the SS, and the carbon fiber hood also provides weight savings. I'm sure their goal is to keep this thing under 4K pounds, as they see what bulk has done to the performance of the Challenger (which most people favor when judging solely on looks).

Also, not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but the blower on this car is the 1.9L Eaton, the car comes standard with backup camera, and sits 7mm lower than the SS. Nineball did a copy/paste of an online interview session with the Camaro team. Mods can delete this link if it is inappropriate, but HERE is the link to the copy/paste interview, beginning on post 15.

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:
Ironhead... We continue to work on evolving Camaro. Regarding Z28, all I can say is stay tuned...

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:
KentWatkins.. I think it is very interesting to note that history of the Z28 and its comparison to Boss 302...

I'm sure they did, but there's only so much you can do without adding substantial cost to the consumer. The SS already uses an aluminum suspension and hood to my knowledge.

Throw in giant brakes/calipers, steamroller tires, blower, intercooler and I wouldn't be surprised if it clocks in at 4100lbs. LSA CTS-Vs are 4300lbs with all that hardware afterall.

That's not a bad thing, it makes the car a heavyweight champion. But we'll see.
