Thumbs up

Wow, just wow. I'm getting a little teary eyed and sentimental right now because my very first car was a (used) 1974 Plymouth Valiant Brougham (nearly identical to the Dodge Dart of the same era) with a 318 two barrel V8.

BOOO!!!! Sham on Dodge for ruining yet another great name that has a great history. Before anyone says anything, yes, I know that the Dart was an economy car. That economy car still came in rwd and a V8 option. They could have kept the rwd on the new one. This car should have been called the Neon... not the Dart.

P.S. It seems like as of lately, no one is allowed to have their own opinion. So, if your sole intent is to bash me for my opinion, go ahead.

The "Neon" name just has too much negative energy surrounding it. Kinda like "Cavalier."

True. I think a lot of these "throwback" cars should have just gotten new names in the first place.

I agree with previous statements: OEMs try too hard to bring back old names. Even worse when they bring over cars from other markets they rename them for the NA Market even if the car already had an english name. FAILLLLLL

Not sure if you got the memo or not but the new Malibu isn't exactly a cheap rental car anymore.

But it definitely was when it came out. And for more than a decade after that.

Everybody just forgets that the Malibu was a cheap rental car in its day as well. It could be optioned to be really cool.

Also, we as a group, are a small percentage of the car buying public. Everything being V8 and RWD is dead. Two doors are dead except on a small segment of cars.

Just sitting around my office I know what about 25 of my coworkers drive every day. 3 are rwd. 1 BMW 3-series, 1 05+ V6 Mustang (mid 20's female), and I have an 02 Expedition (can be 4wd).

From the teaser shots... it certainly looks better than the Caliber it's replacing, and a helluva lot nicer than the current Avenger. Looks like it's sticking with the lines of the current Charger... more crested, and shark-like.

I'll hold on judgement until it's revealed.

I am somewhat shocked they're calling it Dart, which is basically Chrysler's Pinto and still the butt of jokes on Car Talk.

Going with Hornet or even Neon would have been much, much better.

The car itself is an Alfa Romeo Giulietta that's been stretched, widened and given Dodge styling inside and out. The details over at allpar.com sound somewhat promising.
