Pontiac G6 Sedan = ? Chevrolet
What platform is the G6 sedan built on? Is it on the SAAB 9-3 Chassi?
What is the Chevrolet equivalent, I don't see one?
Do you think this would be a good car for my wife? (Daily driver)
I have kids too, so a 4 dr is a must.
I want something American made that looks decent and gets good fuel economy.
I have a Suburban for the family outings, so a big car is not necessary.
Please advise.

Malibu *cough* *cough*
Epsilon debuted under the Opel/Vauhall Vectra and the Saab 9-3 for the 2003 model year. The Chevrolet Malibu, Malibu Maxx and Opel/Signum (basically a much better looking Malibu Maxx sold as an Opel/Vauxhall) followed in 2004. The G6 debuted as an early 2005 model. Epsilon also underpins the 2005 Fiat Croma which was created during the ill fated GM/Fiat partnership. Epsilon will also underpin the upcoming Saturn Aura which is basically a refreshed Opel/Vauxhall Vectra, as well as the European Market only Cadillac BLS.

The G6 is supposedly a much better car in terms of driving dynamics and build quality than the previous gen Grand-Am which it replaces. IMO it's design is a clean one and I like it better next to the Grand Prix even though the rear ends resemble other automobiles (the sedans rear resembles a Scion TC and the coupes resembles a 2nd gen Solara). It sounds like the car would suit your needs quite well. I'd recommend a test drive. It'd be a good alternative to my first picks for American cars to haul the family around (the Chrysler LX trio). The G6 is also considerably smaller than either of the 3 LX cars being a midsize rather than a fullsize.
Engine choices range from a 167hp DOHC 2.4L Ecotec 4 banger, to the mid level 200hp 3.5L pushrod V6, and the range topping 240hp 3.9L pushrod V6. A few months back Pontiac showed a 275hp G6 GXP concept powered by a High Output 3.6L DOHC V6 backed by a 6 speed manual, but it is unknown as to whether Pontiac will build the car or not. Tranny choices for the G6 are a 4 speed automatic across the board with a 6 speed manual optional on the 240hp GTP sedan and GTP coupe.

Thanks Octane and Matt,
I wasn't sure if it was on the Epsilon platform.
You are both very informative.
I am looking at the Ecotec 4 banger, good mileage and a solid engine.
(the 2500 Suburban is killing me)
It has to be a 4 door so the sedan is for me.
I never saw this Saturn Aura? Nice looking car!
Looks more aggressive than the G6. I might just wait for that one? When is it coming out?
I never would have thought of the Malibu myself. It just seems so much like a different car? The G6 and Aura seem more similar. (even the 9-3)
Thanks again.

There will be a Saturn equivalent called the Aura.
The G6 is an awesome car!
The coupe, convertible, GTP and GXP versions all come out this fall.
