Default Duesenberg is coming back from the grave...

...and they're taking names.

For anyone who hasn't heard of these masterpieces; in 1929 the Duesenberg SJ had a 420ci 32v dohc straight 8 producing 265 hp. 3 years later the renamed SSJ got a supercharger to produce 320 hp, topping out at 135 mph. That's 73 years ago. No surprise Duesies won the Indy 500 three times. They were the only American marque to play on the same field with Rolls Royce and Bentley, and only the wealthiest could afford them.

For anyone who hasn't seen one in the flesh,

Did i read that right 300Hp and 70MPG??? That would definetly be impressive, and would be a huge leap for the American Automobile.

That's what they're aiming for. If their engineers have even a fraction of the talent their engineers had 70 years ago, they'll pull it off without breaking a sweat.

Wow...wonder who bought the rights to the name and came up with the ideas. It's the first I've heard about it. Hopefully it's not a disgrace to the original cars. I grew up going to the Auburn/Cord/Duesenberg parade/show/auction in Auburn Indiana. I've always loved these cars and would love to own one somday. Doubt it'll ever happen since some have sold for a million dollars.

I saw a documentary on these cars once. Incredible! The car was the choice of movie stars from that era and you were considered "arrived" in Hollywood when you could afford one. I believe the phrase " That's a Doozy!" came from Duesenberg. The remaining surviving cars are worth a fortune.

I'm betting Jay Leno has something to do with this...

The "That's a Dusey" (correct spelling for the cars) phrase is debated upon where it came from. Gearheads say it came from the car. Prior to the car there was a singer(I think) that had a last name of Doosey or something close and was referred to with the "That's a Doosey". Jay Leno told the origins on an episode of Rides where he found a rare Duesenberg that was only a few blocks from his shop.

Though it doesn't specify, it would be cool if they kept the final assembly here in Indiana.
