the Z06 is...
3150 lb / 505 hp = 6.24 lb per hp
the shelby GT500 super snake is also 4100 lbs, not 3900.
4100 lb / 605 hp = 6.78 lb per hp
even assuming if it is 3900 lbs then it would be...
3900 lb / 605 hp = 6.45 lb per hp
better, but still not there.
when you step up to the non warrantied version...
4100 lb / 725 hp = 5.66 lb per hp
so the 725 hp version should beat the Z06, but the Z06 still has it beat in aerodynamics and I would bet in gearing and traction.
IMO ford is stupid for making these cars weigh this much. they may make more hp, but it doesnt seem to get them anywhere...

it doesnt work exactly like that. look at power to weight ratio... how many lbs does each horsepower have to move?

Thats SAD that Ford needs 225 or more HP to MAYBE have the equal preformance to Z06

yup. for $70k it should at least have an aluminum block and some weight reduction. most people just want to say they have 600 or 700 hp, they dont care about weight or actual performance. someone who cares about performance would get a base V6 mustang and do serious work to that.

I wonder what the Ford people are saying about this car? I'm wondering what excuse they're gonna come up with [this] time as to why it's still "unfair" to compare this car to the C6Z...
I just wrote a thread about this car and how much it sucks. The GT500 can't beat an LS2 400 horse Vette in a drag race, let alone on a track. The Vette adds 30 horsepower for 2008, and is still about even with the new (over $100,000.00) Shelby Super Pig...go figure.
Here's the link for those interested:

It's kind offunny that there's people in this thread already saying what will happen when they put on the drag radials and modify the car. This car has over 600 horsepower and it runs on par with a "base model" 2008 C6!

The plain and simple truth. I will not pay 70k for a mustang! If I had 70k to throw around it would be a Z06 Vette. The Z06 outclasses any mustang hands down! It doesn't take a degree to understand going fast comes down to one thing! POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO!! PERIOD !! everything else is BULL****!! Z06 Vette - 3150 lbs // Super **** Mustang 4100 lbs!!

It kinda makes you wonder where Ford engineers get their degrees from. This Super Snake is a disgrace, and the only this Super about it is its price tag.

Did any of you read the article in Road and Track on this Shelby Super Snake. It has 605hp weighs 3915lbs. Costs $70,670 Here is the performance stats. Right out of the magazine.
0-60 in 4.4 seconds
1/4 mile 12.5 @ 119mph
Top speed 150 Electroncally limited
Not really all that impressive at all. How do you build a 605hp car that runs mid 12's. People can say its the driver all they want but those guys who test these things consistently put down better numbers than you ever see that model run at the track (stock). I cant see traction being the problem because they achieved 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. If it is why doesnt ford use a traction control like the vette. The z06 with the traction on launches flawlessly. I guess the guys at ford will be scratching their heads once again trying to beat the Z06. Its a fair comparison cause they cost the same right.
The first time a Super Snake owner races a Z06 he will look like this

Hell what do you race in the dry with a 16 second truck? 20 year old Escort's?

Guys, Ford engineers never intended the GT500 to go up against a Corvette. The car is outclassed from day 1. Pony car vs Sports car, simple as that.
Ford sells all the variations of Mustangs because they know people will buy them! The saying "mustangs are like tampons, every ****** got one", its true. Ford knows this and wants to capitalize on it. Hell, even I have a stang now, just picked up an 89LX 5.0. You know whats going in there if I ever want to go fast? An LS based motor.
GM is all about being top dog these days, Ford is looking to make profits and keep its head above water... maybe Ford is being the smart one.

Anyone seen this months addition of CAR & DRIVER ?
Tuner car shootout .Viper~Z06~GT40 . Guess which high-dollar tuner car won outright ! Do you suppose the Ford GT40 is the reason GM is willing to produce a $100,000.00 street car for public consumption ? Rumor has it the twin turbo GT40 is being tested for a comeback release the day before GM announces their Z1R for sale . Should be an interesting year for gearheads . Chrysler is out of money so their twin turbo Viper will never see the light of day .

unfortunately mustangs are capitalizing on a smart idea. make them really cheap, and makes lots of them. that way they are really successful. ive never heard the ***** remark, but ive heard 'mustangs are like bellybuttons, everyone has one'. the thing with any car they put out is, they have a big enough crowd everyone will hump it whether it sucks or not
