DING ! DING !
And we have a winner !
The Ford 427 Cammer was built to blow away the Hemi's on Nascar's big ovals like Daytona & Taladega but Bill France bowed to pressure from GM & Chrysler and banned Ford's Hemi Killer .

It was never a production engine, which was why it was never allowed to race. The HEMI and Rat motors were regular production engines. Even the Boss 429 was available, even if only in a Mustang. NASCAR demanded that what was raced was available to the public. That's also why Plymouth has to make enough Superbirds to match its dealer network.

NASCAR completely sucks, IMO. It was cool in the 60's and 70's because the cars on the track were actually versions of cars you could go into the dealership and buy. Who can forget guys like Fireball Roberts, Dan Gurney, and Richard Petty and most importantly, the cars they drove? Today it's nothing more than hype and endless babble from talking heads - just another form of canned "sports" entertainment pawned off on a lobotomized public. It exists solely for the massive revenues it generates and everything is carefully configured to safely achieve that end. "Toyota Camry"?? Give me a ruling. That about says it all.
