Well i picked up my Cts-v today and while i got the car for a decent deal (60k miles, for 15,995) I need to figure out the clunk in the rear end every time torque is rapidly either given to the rear end or the opposite, torque from the wheels to the driveshaft. If I shift and let the clutch out moderately fast it will make the clunk, and if i let of the gas and basically let the car engine brake it also does it. It does not whine whatsoever, just sounds almost as if the carrier itself is loose in the suspension assembly and is moving back and forth, or if my u-joint has a lot of play in it. It still has the Gm Factory Warranty on it, but being a mechanic, id like to at least narrow down the problem before i go drop my car I just bought off at the dealer and drive around a g6 for a week. Thanks in advance for the help, also...What can I do for the wheel hop?

Start off with the simple basics:
Engine mounts (Driver side) is probably shot
Front Diff Mount is probably shot also
Those two should alleviate a substantial amount of "CLUNK". but this drivetrain will always have some level of "clunk".
As far as the wheel hop
, just don't dump the clutch. Read up on the many "kits" and airbag solutions over on cadillacforums.com.

Hey Man,
I had this issue with my car. The BMR pinion support brace did the trick for me (but this is a bandaid). In the mean time rjoffe is right about the mounts...
Good luck!

Hello, it sounds like the bushing in your pinion support might be bad. We offer a pinion support with a high durometer bushing that will eliminate the clunk. It come with hardware and is an easy installation. We also offer many other parts for your CTS-V. here is a link to our site, if you have any questions please give me a call.

I think they are right around 20-25 bucks.... changing them I heard isn't real easy though. GM makes a special tool just for swapping that bushing out so you don't have to drop the diff out to get at it.

Old thread - I just realized I talked about my bushing being out December 2008. I just received my Poly Bushing from Ultra Mounts today. Hoping to get it in the car ASAP! It's clunking REALLY bad now. I actually hope the mount its self is still good.
