Default GTO rear in a V

I have been greatly thinking about doing this. Why cant it be done with some custom mounts and halfshafts and axle? Mine is starting to go out, and gto carriers are like bulletproof, my work has many of them, and I cant even find a V carrier for sale.

well if your going to take the time to replace the rear, most people go with something close to bulletproof. I dont think the stock gto rear is very strong or at least not strong enough to warrant using it.

yes, I work for cleveland Pick a Part, and we have at least 50 gto rear differentials. We rarely sell them, and being that those cars are over 5 years old now, they are still holding up rather well. I do not want to give too much information on what im designing or how its going to work, because id really like to keep it hush hush until i can get something mocked up and working. I messed around with a gto carrier and cts-v complete rear suspension as well as did some measurements on my car and so far so good. I have done some research and looked into kits that are currently for sale-the Kars 3 kit and what not which are just stiffening brackets. The kit that I will be selling would obviously utilize this idea of stiffening the entire rear suspension, as well as eliminating wheel hop, keeping vibrations out of the cabin, and still being able to have a bolt on kit that does not require cutting and welding, trust me I know many people do not wish to cut and grind on their 50k car. Gto diff's are a dime a dozen, and as stated previously have a decent design with their cast iron shell. A big hurdle to overcome will be the CV joints, and mounting the carrier since it mounts on the bottom, while the V mounts on the back face. If it cannot be done, I have a viper carrier to try out, but those will be more expensive, and I believe they have a very low 3.08 gear so gears would definately have to be switched out. More to come with this project.

Just out of curiousity, how much would most of you guys be willing to pay for a kit like this? I still have to price out driveshafts and halfshafts, and also, do they make ring an pinion gear sets for the GTO?

Good point, and then only take into consideration owner that are modded and run their cars at the track and/or dragstrip. Feedback from the DDs and the stockers are not going to give you a good gauge on what the rear-end can really take.

I had an 05 GTO. I was always doing 5k launches on SLICKS, and the rear diff would just laugh at me. Those things are STOUT! Cast iron design dumdumdum!!!

My friend that does all my tuning has an 06 GTO w/ 405rwp (cam and headers) and he went through his diff about 6-8 months after installing his cam. He doesn't take it to the track much but he does run the car pretty hard.
