Default my 'cradle crushers!' spacers wheel hop fix

Taking notes from 'the hog' stacking washers on the cradle busings one step further...

I DID NOT CUT the cradle bushings at all; I wanted to leave the rubber there to take up the space and compact it together / pre-load it for a firmer mount. The only tricky part is eyeballing the bushing and making sure the crush sleeve makes it through the new washers.

..So anyways i drew up some washers instead of digging all over for them.

I used 3/16" aluminum sheet to cut mine on the laser. As with my 'nivomat lowering solution' my files are available via email dchildress@qubicaamf.us for anyone or company to use to beneifit the communtiy.

Vs. the prototypes I installed on the car, I would go ahead with 1/4" aluminum if it can be had. I think I will end up with 2 plates on top of the front, one on the bottom and 2 plates on the bottom, one on the top for the rear (out of 3/16) but I'm gonna ride on the way pictured for the time being to really test each way out good. No sense in roughing up the ride if it doesn't help.

This knocked my wheelhop down very significantly. I feel safe flooring it in 1st gear now which i kinda think is a big deal.

Check the pics.

Big note that once I became familiar with the friggin post on the rear of the cradle I decided that it was ok to 'C' shape the upper washers. I will update the laser file with this. I figured since the factory bushing only touches on the sides anyway that the section of washer missing was no big deal. The rear with the C is the last picture. Time will tell on that but I was feeling lazy and the cradle wouldnt lower any more.

I put these on in quite literally a half hour with a good air impact and retq'd to 140#.

thanks, i havent looked into it, but from what i understand about the v's diff situation is its not a significant role-player with keeping the insides inside.

Yeah, I think it just keeps the pinion angle from moving as much as it normally would thanks to all the soft mounted crap.

MightyMouse,

Would you be interested in selling a set as a 'kit'? If so, how much would you charge? Thanks!

Using a different height spacer from front to rear of the cradle. Did that have any influence on the rear alignment? Is the cradle in the same possition relative to the body as in stock form? 3/16 is not a large difference. I wonder if it changes pinion angle and helps with hop in that respect as well.

Or do these washers allow the crush sleeve to bottom on the body and crush the mount?

corner carver, i did not/have not changed any factory geometry, just pre-loading the bushings each bushing is compressed 3/8" one washer above, one below.

yes the steel center of the bushing still contacts the original spots, or i would be doing no good.

just a heads that may help you with your design: the KARS kit we're going to start producing has 3 inch? 1/4 and 1/2 inch tall aluminum spacers that fit in all the rear body mounts. Theyre about 11 gauge (figure 1/8th inch thick) might be cheaper for you to bust out a sawzall and buzz through some thick aluminum pipe.

I just installed one washer on top and one on the bottom for all 4 corners. It's still hopping quite a bit buts it's also raining outside. I'll have to try again once it dries up and then decide if I should add more or not.

I didn't measure the thickness but they were probably only 1/8" thick. So I probably need to add a couple more in there.

ah ok, so you are not using my design then.. did you cut the bushign at all first or leave it as-is with the washers?

have to make sure that the crush sleeve goes throught the washers too.

I left the bushing as is and just lined everything up. I did however cut the "C" section out of the rear washers and that made it much easier. I hit fastenal today and picked up another set of washers so hopefully that will do the trick.

What size washers are you using for the front/rear?
