Default pics of 255/40's or 255/45's

I'm looking to get a new set of tires and would like bit lower profile. my nexen 3000 look almost too big for the wheel well (though i never rub) and the tires i'm looking at are limited in sizes. i can't get a 265/40 in either of them (Goodyear Eagle GTs OR Michelin Pilot A/S Plus $$$) so i'd like to see my other options. although i live in Wisconsin and drive a crap load of miles - i would prefer to not run a Blizzak in the winter - not until i have a set of summers rims/tires.

So - please post up pics of your 18" set ups with sizes and tires listed...

^^ thanks. they don't look quite as tall as I thought they would - do you think it will cause a problem when i lower it this next spring?

I would go 255/40 if you're going to lower it. 255/45 would end up rubbing for sure.

I have 255/45/18 Nitto Invos. They are taller than advertised, I wish I had gone with 255/40. I had to modify the front inner fender wells to make them fit. The sidewalls are a little weaker than I'd hoped for as well.

On the bright side, they are quiet, cheap, and have good grip. I've hit 1.09g with them. Cut coils and shimmed rear shocks only. Lowered about an inch in the back and 3/8" in the front.

in your opinion - is a 255/40 too low of a profile or should i stick with the 245/45 or possibly a 265/40 (harder to come by in an all-season)?

I have 245/45 toyo proxies. to be honest they are damm close to rubbing on the front inner fedner walls..

I wish I went with 255/40 just for even alittle more grip in the rear.

255/45 would rub for sure.

here are some pics of my 245/45

yeah. my nexen 3000's 245's are so close to the front of the wheel well that I can't even get my finger in there. i'm leaning more towards 255/40's - but for some reason i'm having a tough time finding anyone that has actually run 'em

I've got pics of my garage in the classified's section, 255/40 BFGs.

Agree, EdmundGTP, your stance is killer.

Thanks for the pics guys. Im still debating keeping the 255 40s I have. I think it would look fine lowered but if I raise it any, not quite sure.. The 245 45s are at least dual purpose in that regard.

Edmund, what are your fender to ground measurements in that pic? I'm running 26.5 at all 4 corners, these tires would put me around 26 flat, which is as low as I want to go..I don't run any rake, I like the way it looks and handles that way.

Jay, is your car lowered? Doesn't look too bad if not.

I think the stock size is a bit beefier looking overall, from the side at least. I was just looking for that bmw type stance with the lower profile tires. I looked at one the other day with those nice concave rims, and it was running a 255 35 18, but it looked huge. I guess it was probably a 9 inch rim..

I expect the ride to be a bit more harsh with the lower profile, just wondering how much more..

Last I checked it was 26 even at all 4 corners.

You'd have to make a pretty drastic change in tire size to get a full half inch drop in ride height.. That'd mean your tire dameter shrank by a full inch..

would 255/35 look too thin on the stock rims? some of the higher performance tires are only offered in this profile.
