Default **coilover question** help me out please..

Hey guys,
Well its that time I want to low my cars stance drastically. My question is about coilover "kits". I dont want to spend the premium ($800+) for a full-blown coilover. Will the other "kits" work. And will packages available for the regualar cts (non v) work for my V? Any info helps....

and thanks in advance,
Morgan

I think at under $800 your only option would be ground control. Thats as close to a kit as you'll find. Cheaper alternatives are stock struts/shocks and plain old lowering springs which won't lower your ride much unless you get the MightyMouse plates or the RC51 spacers in addition to springs.

thanks for the quick reply...
what is your opinion on the ground force kit? will it lower it considerably? and last question... whats the deal with the spacers and the lowering springs, is the ride okay and does that make a difference either?

Thanks again,
Morgan

you have a serious mod list.... i would have thought coilover money wouldnt be a big deal.

But i do wonder if some of the normal cts coilover kits would work in our cars for a primarly street setup.

if you want something that lowers your car considerably, i don't see any other choice than a complete coilover kit.

i for one have k-sports.

That is probably true, but for the price ($500) the Ground Control Coilover Kit for the CTS-V (with choice of spring rates) is by far the best value.

You can lower your car a bit less than 2" in front and a bit less than 1.5" in the rear with the GC Kit.

Most people do not need to, or would not want to lower their car to the extreme that tony tone did. While it looks very badass, it is just so impractical for most people. Spend the $500 on the GC Kit and if it doesn't work for you, you could always sell the kit used and try a more expensive option.

What most people don't tell you is that the GC Kit is great for ease of adjustibility and it hugely increases the handling performance of the car. Add some swaybars and better shocks and you have a go-cart-like sedan.

do the ground control kits have the clunking issue still or has that been addressed? i'm also in the market for lowering but i keep going back and forth with ground control and just hr springs.

considering she sits about 3 inches off the ground, it rides, well, like a cadillac.

it also added a nice tight feel to it, but my main concern was that there was no one out there who offered a simple solution to lower the car more than 2 inches, and considering the stance i was looking for with the wheels of my choice, i had no other choice but complete coilovers. i wanted to tuck all four wheels almost to the rim, and the k-sports help me accomplish that without compromising too much quality.

and still have about 3 inches of play if i really felt like sagging body.

in case you haven't seen it

and the back is about a little over an inch lower now.

the rest of the shoot could be found on google by searching 360 forged cts-v. one i found here:

I'm not too sure how they feel around here about mentioning non-supporting vendors / suppliers, so i won't go there.
BUT, there is a Cadillac High Performance independent shop in Signal Hill, CA that just came out with some lowering springs for the '09 CTS-V & up. Might be able to find the place by googling "Dr James" or "Dr Design"

I come back on here today and I get all kinds of feedback! thank you guys! Yeah, I do have a pretty selective and pricey mod list. The brakes for one, are my single most expensive purchase. But, unfortunately my trade and profession is also affected by the economy and I just need to really be responsible with how i'm spending my money.

tony tone.... do I really need to tell you how f#cking sick that stance is. Now, with my brakes behind there it would be the cherry on top.

Thank you everyone who helped me out. I will let you know my decision and please keep me posted if there are any other suggestions/help.

They been workin on it for awhile, should be ready soon....

Van Steel of of Florida
Guy I talked with is Paul

http://www.vansteel.com/
email: vansteel@vansteel.com

I'm still waiting to see pictures and exact price.

I think if they see emails, phone calls, it may speed them up in finishing and releasing the system. mention my name if you like and this LSI tech web too..
