I want to go turbos!! Advice?
#22
if built properly a rear mounted turbo setup can be driven everyday and threw all weather. and there is always room for growth with a turbo setup, mike nices V is still running with out issue and the new owner loves it.

I love it when people do something different... to their car... my car, going to keep it, cheap, common and simple... I'm the type of guy who would swap a LS into about anything.
Sounds like the turbos are really not for you, sounds like fun, till you hit the realities.

wrong.....mike nices V ran out of fuel and only made 440rwhp and also bent the pushrods and possibly did some other damage. i agree properly setup they can run well and are a good alternative but its not something id do.

that damage was probably due to a bad tune not having a rear mount turbo. many lsx people run turbos and have none of those issue. people do damage from just running a simple cam. its all about how you set it up.

I just don't know why you would want to do all that to a v1 and then buy a v2 next year. Seems like your thowing money out the window.....

your logic doesn't make much sense. For what your going to spend on all of that for the v1, why don't you wait 2 months and buy a v2 with all the goodies. Your gonna dump just under 10k for all that for the V1, and as soon as you buy it your gonna effectively have about 7k worth of stuff on your hands. Sell the v1 for about 20-25, save the 10k and wait a month or two and get a good used v2 for low 40's... just finace about 5k, or if you can save a month or two longer and buy it outright...

Why spend all the money on a maggie, cam and headers if you are planning on upgrading to a V2? You wont get the money from your mods when you sell the V1 unless you part it out, even then you are lucky to get .50 on every dollar.

Like others said, save and get a V2.
Talk to Gulf M3, he has a v1 with maggie, heads, cam, etc just what you want to do and he can tell you the issues...

I appreciate the input guys and I've thought about it and I think that I am going to wait until I am out of school until I get a V2 because I am still paying off this V and paying tuiton so I figure why not mod the V up so I can enjoy it for the next 4 years besides I just can't bring myself to sell the car I worked hard to get this one anyways, I appreciate the advice and sorry if I said some stupid things, but I guess my plan is to just mod it somewhere so I can keep having fun with it and taking it to track events until I am ready for the V2!

I drove mine every day for a year, put on 20k miles and only had one issue, a thrown belt. But, I built mine "right". After a week of running the overdrive crank pulley and a 6 rib belt I shredded a belt and had to change it on the side of the road, not a huge deal, but to me thats not acceptable from a daily driver. Think how cool it would be to throw a belt with a business client or a girlfriend in the car... So I stepped up and added the full 8 rib kit, ECS belt tensioner and a Green Gates Kevlar belt ($80 for the belt alone!). I put 10k miles on that 8 rib belt and it still looks new, 0 belt slip and no more dust in the engine bay.
The only reason I sold the Maggie off my V1 is because I don't need the car as a daily driver any more and the 500rwhp was beginning to feel tame, now I'm going in a different direction.
