5/6 point harness in a V
#3
There have been some setups using the rear seatbelt / latch connections to run a shoulder harness. And some mods to make up additional lap points. The angle for the sholder harness is not ideal connected to the rear seat. Without a roll cage you are risking injury should the roof collapse. A factory three point will allow you to slide down should the roof be crushed, a 5 point will keep you in place.
Get a CG Lock, and call it a day.

yes, I have
BUT it's not what you think.
I installed my Simpson 5 pt harness OVER the stock belt
........so I was using both belt systems
why?
to keep me planted in the seat, PERIOD
I still used the stock belt just in case something happen on the track because the stock selt belt is tied into the seat and air bang and sensors and the "PC" police..... ;-)
I want to just stayed planted in my seat while cornering
.....and it worked like a charm

I realize the arguments using a 5 point plus in a non-caged car. I can see the logic.
While the liklihood of that happening is real, although slim, it's reduced even further when I'm firmly planted in the seat and able to properly control the car.
Realize also that if I want to drive 10 tenths, I have a CMC road race car with a full containment seat I can do that with. I just want to have a little fun in the Caddy.
Jerry, do you have any pics of the install and what pick-up points you used?

Mounting points: (I'll take some picture from ECR track day on Sunday Jan 30th)
AGAIN this is HOLD me in seat NOT as a primary seat system
I used the bar under the seat for submarine belt
then the stock seat belt base for the lap belts
then the baby seat hook for the shoulder belts
and yes, I know NONE of these points are stronger for a racing harness by itself.

I looked at the child carrier mounting point. SCCA FS guys have used that point for years to do exactly that ... hold your upper body in the seat.
Any issues with the shoulder belts rolling off your shoulders?
By the seat belt base, I'm assuming you "piggy-backed" the lap belts and the factory lap belt ?

never roller off shoulders. Im 6'1" tall. I have LONG top belts that I connect to a metal loopy type latch that gets connected to the baby seat latch.
I click the side belts onto the the rear metal of stock base.

Go with the Scrhoth ASM 4 point harness, $280 and is made for factory seats. Thats what my instructor was running in his CTS-V this weekend at Sebring and they were great.
Personally I dont like the idea of a CG lock for open track where speeds are closing in at 140mph like Sebring.

My Sabelt expired last year and had to be replaced. The Scroth just doen't want to stay seated in the HANS "wings. It rides over the lip after only a 20 minute race.
Maybe it's because the new belt is a lot stiffer material than the Sabelt. They were both wrapped and buckled the same way. I dunno ...
CG lock isn't an option.

my simpson belts have a click connector to be used to connect to eye bolts.
Anyways, I connect or click on the the rear base metal of the seats.
Hopefully this picture I just took tonite shows what I mean

I stayed planted in my seat
I did not need to drill any holes anywhere to test this out.
VERY happy
