anyone use this oil? I'm about due for a change, and I can get it for like 4.70 per quart.
on the other hand, I can get 7 qts of royal purple, 4 quarts of RP ATF, RP differential fluid, a K&N filter, (and something else for 16 bucks i need) for 150-coupon code BIG50 for 100 bucks.
I'd like to try the valvoline racing, but don't know if it's any good. So for people that have run it, is it worth it? My cats are hollow, and naturally shut off.

Racing oils generally have little to no additives. You don't keep racing oil in your engine for more than maybe a weekend or two. I would not use racing oil in a street car unless you plan on having it in there only for a short time (like to race your car).

I read the quart when I was there to get my royal purple (I've actually always like Valvoline oil products, so I figured I'd check this scene out first), and figured it would be worth asking since it has extra wear prevention additives that the liberal communist tree huggers won't let be used.

It says right there in the link you provided: Not to mention that oil is 20w-50.
But if you want to stick it to the commie tree huggers, have at it.
The low-detergent, high zinc racing oil optimized for track-use only

The "low" zinc seems to be an issue for the flat tappet crowd- not really an issue for roller cams like the LS engine. If you want a little more zinc/phosphorus for your oil, you can run Mobil 1 High Mileage or add some ZDDP Additive from Eastwood.

I could not find an API rating. -- Not for Street use.
I personally run Group III oil (since 1967) and although Group IV oil (synthetic) has superior molecule against heat breakdown,
most of us never see the 'heat of racing' and synthetic is for high heat & extended oil changes as well.
The oil I use has superior wear protection (due to zinc-dialkyldithiophosphate) higher detergents, and a superior API rating.
Of coarse, because it is mineral base and not synthetic, it needs to be changed more often.
Using synthetic and changing your oil within 5k miles under normal driving conditions = waste of money.
Although many do not believe that, the chemistry would bare that out when comparing Group III to Group IV.
Most all comparisons you will read compare Group II to Group IV.
