Default Good Price for Cam Install and Tune $1250?

So I want to get a cam and started pricing out how much it would cost and found a great deal from an independent mechanic/tuner. Before you flame me... He works for one of the shops so he is knowledgable and experienced. He is doing this so he can start up his own shop. He also has a 1 day turn around.

Let me know what you think.

Parts: $700
- Comp Cam 236......
- Hardened push rods
- Double springs
- titanium valve locks
- valve seals
- timing chain / sprocket
- valve cover gasket
- timing cover gasket
- front crank seal

Labor: $550
- Install all parts
- HP Tuners tune

Total price for labor and parts $1250 cash.

I got pricing from "reputable" shops in my area and they are quoting me $2000-$2300

Would you do it?

If he's got prior work to stand by I don't see why not. Only problem is warranty and retune type issues if he up and disappears or moves.

I need to get a price on this as well as I plan to have a cam installed in mine in the near future. Maybe we can find someone here local and get a better deal for bringing 2 cars to the same place.

yea thats a hard price to beat. While you are in there I would spend the extra 150 and put a melling 10296 or ported ls6 oil pump in it. He shouldnt charge you more then 50 extra to install it.

Crank seal I can see, but valve cover gaskets aren't really needed unless you tear one up.

Just south of Houston but my sister lives in Austin so I wouldn't be opposed to a short road trip for a deal on a cam and tune.

much better oil pressure which is key wespecially sicne youll be revving the car a little more with a cam that size. At your mileage its a hell of a good deal as a maintenance item to do while its right there.

Basically the magic stick 3 from texas speed. Its a high revving cam that makes great power. STageup on here has it and has great results....it also loves the bottle if that is in your future. You will give up a little driveability down low and the tune needs to be spot on but i think youll be happy with it.

That is a smoking deal, and a lot of work, would be surprised if he can really turn it around in a 10 hour day.
