Default Fuel Injectors

Hey, I'm about to install a new cam (see signature) with a Walbro 255LPH fuel pump and wondered if you think I'll need new fuel injectors. Seems that everyone loves the ID850s, but I'm suffering from a bad case of sticker shock. I could get a matched set of Bosch EV14 (80lb) injectors for $500. Advice?

You should be fine, and 80lbers would be WAY WAY overkill unless you plan on making 700rwhp. At most for heads/cam or cam only grab some SVO 30s(36lbs at GM fuel pressure) or on the high end 42lbers. Id wait till it gets tuned and see what the IDC ends up being.

When I had 42's with my Maggie, headers and cam they were maxed out. I'd go with 60lbs and call it a day. U can find some siemens (i think that's how you spell it) for a little over 300$. Then you won't have to worry about injectors anymore

Yeah, but isn't there a problem with Siemens injectors being inconsistent and causing trouble with tuning?

I asked my tuner what kinda injectors to get and that's what he told me. So I'm guessing he's never really had problems with them. Everytime I go in there he's tuning something and they have always put me in the right direction

Having injectors overly big for the setup can cause tuning problems just fyi. Personalyl right now without knowing where you stand your wasting money. You wont gain any performance if your current injectors are only 90% IDC.

Given your power levels I'd stick with what you have. Bear in mind you'll need to rescale your tune with new injectors so more money for your tuner there. Unless your duty cycle is hitting 90%+ you're fine. Besides, injectors are not very hard to swap out later on if needed.

Can I drop in new fuel injectors and expect to be able to drive to the tuner?

Depends how far the tuner is and how big a jump you make in injector size.

Siemens DEKA Series 5 FI11351 injectors here and no issues whatsoever. I guess that a lot of it depends on the tuner.

As far as sizing, here's a link for you....... http://www.rceng.com/technical.aspx?...gags7HmIxlcEyX

Maybe but not recommended. I would 'borrow' a flash tool (efi/hp tuners), get your tuner to update the base injector tables of your tune, flash it, then drive it to your tuner. This is the safe way.

If you oversize too much without this you will be running very rich, risk messing up a sensors/cats etc in the process.

I'm installing a Walbro 255LPH pump and a matched set of Bosch 73lb (@ 58 psi) fuel injectors. According to my research, I should be pushing 95 psi with the pump. Can you say "1% duty cycle?" When I'm done with this round of upgrades, I should be making 450 RWHP and have enough injector for 800 RWHP. *sigh*

Anyway, it looks like I'm going to have to get a SCT X3 to allow my tuner to send me a remote tune. Blargh. $500 down the hole. Anyone have one that I can borrow, or are they VIN locked?

No. Cam is in the mail, and TVS1900 or TVS2300 will follow this summer. If I have to upgrade my injectors, I don't want to do it twice.

Yeah 73 is overkill. Way overkill. Save your money and get something closer to what you need

Unless your going with a Tvs 2300 and a smaller pulley 60# should be more than satisfactory.

All of the matched injector options cost the same (except the really large injectors) from this particular vendor, so I went with the biggest injectors in the price bracket. Even if I don't need these, shouldn't they make tuning easier than 8 unmatched 62 lb injectors because a) they're matched and b) their duty cycle will be lower?

Errmmm.... Unless I hit my head I don't understand what you mean by 95 psi... You're still at 4 bar.

Don't know what an sct x3 is. Cheapest way for tunes is an efi autocal (they come with a single vin license that can be expanded to 5 I believe). Go for about $300. Never used one but I know lots of people who remote tune do. A vin license for EFI gear is about $100 per license. Alternatively buy a full blown efi v2 flashscan for $800 (comes with 3 licenses), then resell it. Should cost you a lot less. Hell I might even buy it as I need a second one. Or you can always use it for remote tune updates, it's always good to spend a few days logging and getting your tuner to adjust your tune for everyday driving.

Don't sweat it too much, I'm running a 90lbs injectors at 4 bar on mine. No tuning issues and the folks at FIC sent me a nicely formatted table also, so was a 2 min job to get her up and running. Actually they recommended this vs. 60/70lbs injectors as they have a heavily reworked nozzle on their big injectors which is very popular apparently. So if you got them from the nice chaps at FIC make sure they send you the GM tables.

BTW, bear in mind TVS units use LS9 style injectors, they are teeny tiny so your regular ls1/2 injectors won't fit without some retro kits/spacers etc.

What size injector are you running (or are you using spacers), ichpen? I don't want to be buying another set of injectors in 2 months.

Also, did you go the TVS 2300 Box 1 / MP112 Box 2 route on your car?

Yep we got the tvs to work just fine. I'm now running 90lbs at 4 bar injectors on the tvs. They are ls9 style.

The ls9 injectors are considerably smaller than the ls2 style. You'll need fuel rail spacers (if such a thing exists) I suspect if you want to reuse them on the tvs fuel rails as they are too tall. I opted to avoid complication and just bought a new set of resized ls9 injectors from FIC.

I have my original ls9 injectors up for sale if you're interested for cheap.
