Default Dead clutch

I ran into an issue during a little "spirited" driving this weekend where the clutch got smoked and I lost the ability to move the vehicle under its own power. I smell nothing but burnt clutch. The pedal feels different like it has some "rebound" action near the end of its travel yet has good pressure throughout its travel.

Over the last several months I've been getting an increasingly worse howl type noise while engaging the clutch from a stop and every once in a while downshifting, but only while the clutch is engaging the flywheel. Never any drivability issues or slipping. Now I can put the trans in all gears and release the clutch to get no response. Trans shifts just fine. No fluid leaks. LS7 kit from SDparts, LAPD bleeder and LS7 slave are on order. I'll probably have the trans down this weekend.

Anyone have this happen? I wonder if its a slave failure or something to do with the PP or dual mass flywheel separating?

Strange for an 07... something must be broken. How many miles are on it? Was there an event in particular when this happened or did you just get in one day and got no response?

Mine was pretty well done with 98k on it, but i've heard others go to 120k without having clutch issues.

Last time my V had its clutch serviced was previous owner at 13k basically...

Car has 126k miles on it now, and I replaced the clutch for the hell of it maybe 1k miles ago. Orig clutch was holding strong too. Guess it depends on how you treat it.

Would like to see pics when you pull it apart.

The dual mass flywheel probably separated.

I'm not too harsh on it normally, but I do like to drive it as its meant to be driven. The car has 67000 miles. I bought it with 57000. I probably started experiencing the described noise around 62-63k. I will post pics and I'm expecting what heavymetals is thinking....the dual mass separated.

If you drive it like you are trying to break it, don't be surprised if it does.

I bet you kill a diff next.......

I can't not be surprised that it would break so easily. Like BudRacing said, I'd expect at least 100k out of it compared to the norm for an X320-V. Should be interesting to see the failure mode.

I fried my stock clutch 3x to the point that I thought the car wasn't gonna move under it's own power. Twice at the track and once on some spirited "back road-road racing". Smelled horrible but always came back after bleeding and I got 141k out of it.
