Default Tuner ran my car at 20psi and 210 IAT2s, guess what happened?

Tuner was in town a few weeks ago. After the first pull on dyno, boost was 20psi and IATs were over 200. I told him that the HX needed to be bled, and that the boost was rather high. He ignored me, continued to do pull after pull (only changing timing I believe) until on the 6th or 7th run I had coolant coming out from both sides of the motor.
I believe the combo of the high heat and the high boost caused the heads to lift. The plugs were pulled and looked good, compression test was good.
I have 09 with only 11k miles, whipple 2.9, cam, HX, SW exhaust. The head bolts were stock (tuner knew this), but arp studs were installed when new head gaskets were put on.
Was 20psi and 210 IAT2s the probable cause of the failure?
Thanks.

20psi on a stock block? Is he crazy...figured the stocker should never be run more than around 12psi especially with a monster whipple. What are you or he doing to fix this car? As in are you responsible for his a$$ decision? Id love to see a video of the run

While I concur that the tuner's approach seems stupid, it's your car. If he's doing things with your car that you're not comfortable with, you tell him the tuning session is done.

Ok...time to name that hack! This idiot should not be in business. At 210* IAT you should probably be running -20* timing alone not to mention the boost retard necessary for 20 PSI.

Never should have gone over 10 PSI on a 2900 and never should have done back to back runs...this fool was actively trying to grenade your motor, and he succeeded.

If all you need is new head gaskets and studs, you got off easy.
This could have been much worse.
I think you are very lucky.

However, you need to dial back that boost, unless you want an excuse to buy a new forged internals engine.

I think that motor is a goner.

Kind of neat to know you can get 20 lbs of boost though.

^ This. Even if you can patch it back up you will have issue's in the end.

Take that thing straight from your tuner to another shop and have a compression test done. An *** kicking like that and that motor is on the brink if none of the internals went already.

So am I the only one that wants to know what numbers it was putting down during all of this?

Heat was probably killing it, and the ECM was fighting for it's life and all... But I'm still curious!

8rib?

So what was it pullied too? Usually the pulley configuration is damn close to the desired boost level.

Who built the motor and chose the blower pulley's?

The tuner only tunes what they are working with. Lifting heads is not a big deal, I've personally lifted a few myself. Thats what happens when owners want to push there setup's.Most times you just change the gaskets and install good studs. No big deal.
