I am looking for some help choosing a cam for my V that I drive every day. I picked up a set of Stage II Patriot CNC ported 243's for a deal and now I need a cam. I will be doing a big "overhaul" on the car. Maybe a Texas Speed V2? I already have LT headers and a full 3 inch exhaust and CAI. I suppose I will need a intake and TB eventually as well. While I am at it I will pull the cradle and put some rod bolts in, a new timing set and oil pump. I have a new alternator, balancer, a LS7 clutch, TOB, and a few other things.

You're going to get a million different responses here...most important question, do you have emissions to worry about? If so, you are limited to cams with at least -9* overlap to maintain emissions compliance.
If not, it's really how much "chop" is acceptable to you, or if you intend to go FI in the future. EPS (Geoff, Engine Power Systems) has been taking the lead in cams lately IMO and is a great guy to deal with.
If you would like an idea of exactly what you should look for, hit up PredatorZ (Mark) on the forums here as he is one of the greatest resources for unbiased information available. He's a really good dude and goes out of his way to help people...I would have a few idea's of what you want though before you hit him up.
Sounds like a fun project you're starting!

Thanks, I do not plan on FI and have no emissions to worry about. My car does not even have cats on it. I do not want to change valve springs every 10k miles. I would like a nice sounding idle but I would rather have something that puts out some good power. I am going to do rod bolts and CNC heads I am looking for some more power. I hate to do all the work and only gain 30-40hp. I would rather do a cam and heads and gain 70-80+. After doing this will it be necessary to do a 90mm+ intake and TB swap?

DMM suggested I talk to Predator Z and he was a great help. I started with a cam rec from my local tuner and Z basically completely endorsed it. You might take the same route-- find a smart, reputable, no bullshit LS performance builder/tuner and get his advice.
FYI, the cam I plan to go with is 228/234 111+3.

I went with Texas Speed Torquer V3 231/234 .643/598 111 LSA and couldn't be happier. With my heads & headers and other small mods I picked up around 90 HP over stock and that's with a **** tune that I'm currently working on fixing.
That said if you're going FI have someone spec out a good blower cam, also post up in the GEN III internal engine forum, those guys really helped me out in my selection.
FYI I would stay away from Thunder Racing I had a bad experience with them, on the flip side Texas Speed knows their stuff and was on the ball with my order and good recommendations for what I was looking for. Just my 2 cents.

How long does a set of valve springs last? I am speaking of the Patriot springs good for .650 lift. Etcts-v did your mileage drop? I drive this car every day and I can deal with cam surge. I don't want to have to change my valve springs every 10k miles though.

If you want to pick up a Thunder Racing cam (which are great), get ONLY the cam from them. Buy everything else elsewhere. That shop has fallen into disarray after a whole bunch of (literally) Jerry Springer-style crap. Or so the guys at Texas Speed say (and I have no reason to doubt them).

as for driving experience, the cam work awsome, good low end power, but anything over 2700 rpm the car pulls like a frieght train.
the 233/239 cam matches my spirited driving habits perfectly.

I ended up getting a MS3 cam and a set of CNC 243 casting Patriot heads. I am still acquiring the additional parts needed. I have roller rockers, new balancer, new water pump, gaskets, bolts, 92 mm TB. I need a FAST intake, lifters, push rods, and oil pump still. All that and a monster clutch and bronze shifter cup bushing. I am shooting for a Christmas overhaul.

I will have to look at the flow sheets on them but only have $999 in them and they are new never used 243 castings and new head bolts. I have too many other things to buy at this point. I understand your loyalty to AI but I probably wouldn't bother changing heads if I didn't have to change springs (and my car has 96k on it). I dont have the specific flow chart in front of me but with a quick google comparison between what I have and AI they flow nearly identically at 600 lift and although I have no way to over lay the flow curve it appears similar. I have a couple of other projects though so I will keep them in mind, thanks for the heads up.

Im not loyal to them I have just seen enough reviews about the patriots that leave a lot to be desired. A buddy of mine hates that he ever went with patriots. Just wanted to put it out there though im sure youll make great power either way Im a huge fan of the MS3 its a very proven cam.

I really appreciate the suggestions. For me a lot of times as with the patriots a opportunity arose and i jumped on it. I will post my specific flow chart. These flow 295cfm at 600 intake and 220 exhaust. I think they will be good but i have a couple more builds coming and some extra 243s laying around.
