Android Phone Integration - V1?
Are there any good solutions for Android integration into the V1?
iPhones/Pods have the PA15Vette Solution.
Is all we have the just the headphone jack splice / RCA option on the P15Vette?
Would be nice to be able to plug into the USB, and at least get charging and output (still have to control it the music from the phone).
Thanks in advance!

I'm a huge Android fan & researched a bunch. There is nothing direct. Here are the things I've done/considered:
- I did the AUX cable input & ran that for awhile
- After awhile, I started using my Nokia BH-214 or BH-221 Bluetooth with the AUX In. This worked great for me for awhile. I was playing audio over BT into the BH-214/221 out the headphones into the AUX In. I took calls over it fairly well as well. I simply plugged in USB from the rear plug with wires ran forward
- I considered installing a tablet in the dash, but there are LOT of things you'll need to account for: hands free? steering wheel controls? volume? A LOT of stuff, not to mention expensive. I was told it cost about $5k to do a custom install of an iPad by a stereo shop. I wanted something nice, not just ghetto stuck to the dash.
- I tried the Pioneer App-Radio2 for about a week and a half. I had a rooted phone & used ARLiberator and when it worked, it was neat, but most of the time it didn't work (screen glitching, audio dropping, etc), but the concept of completely mirrored output from my Android phone to the deck was something I THOUGHT I always wanted.
- I finally went with the Parrot Asteroid Smart, which is completely powered by Android (albeit 2.3.7). It's not perfect, but it works fairly well for all the other stuff that installing a tablet wouldn't fix. It does hands free really well (they're originally known for it) BT, USB, GPS, apps, etc. It works great tethered to my cell phone. I can do just about EVERYTHING on it that I can on my tablet or phone. I Have a 256GB USB hard drive connected to it with ALL of my music and some movies/tv shows too.
After trying all these things, I honestly believe the Parrot is the best way to integrate Android into the car. I have rooted it, can do just about everything I need, and my issues with it are apparently being addressed in the next release. I *HOPE* that eventually the devs on XDA will come out with a custom ROM for it. That would be slick . . .
Your one request: plug in USB & control the media, it depends on the phone. My Samsung phones do not install as USB devices, only MTP or PTP. I did plug in my Evo into a Ford Fusion with Sync & it was charging & playing MP3 from my phone, that was cool, but I've not seen that on anything else.

android wasnt even out til 08 so i dont think anyone developed peripherals for a v1 esp w the new cts already out. if it uses the same the same data output to play/pause/skip as the idevices, in theory you splice the 30pin apple connector or use an adapter to a micro usb and get the same functionality.
but agreed its better to just ugrade the whole head unit

Thanks for the great info Laygo. Trying to find a simple solution, but at the same time, I like the elegant solution you provided.
Not sure why I'm so attached to the OEM head unit - maybe it's for the DIC stuff.

You could do a base car CTS DIC mod and use the Parrot asteroid. That way you have a new radio and maintain DIC functions.

My Asus Transformer TF101 10.1" tablet wouldn't fit width wise across the dash. I so much very wanted it to. I was willing to go with a 8-9" tablet. Just was way more expensive to get it done than to just have an Android Head Unit installed that is a hybrid standard deck + tablet.
