As a lower cost alternative to the PSS or PS4S, consider a set of Hankook Ventus V12 evo2. The Ventus V12 evo2 is about 90% the capability of the PS4S at 67% the price.

I'd also suggest the Continental Extremecontact Sports. They're a bit more similar in tread pattern and overall design to the Michelins. $20 more per tire than the Hankooks for the stock 245/45/18 size.
Hankook ~$150
Continentals ~$170
Michelins ~$225

Contis have better treadwear for a daily @ 340AA
Weigh 24 lbs vs the 26 lb Hankooks (Michelin PS4S are 25 lb)
and have the greater tread width of 8.5" vs 8.4" and 8.1" respectively which should somewhat counter the harder compound.

All 3 are great tires, however.

BudRacing I came to similar conclusions about the ExtremeContact DW, which looks like the lesser sibling of the ExtremeContact Sport.

Earlier, I was set to buy a couple of sets of ExtremeContact DW instead of the Ventus V12 evo due to the lighter weight and higher treadwear rating, but got scared off by user reviews saying that the DW was “scary” in wet conditions at less than 50% tread depth. Can you corroborate this information?

Sadly, I can corroborate this as I own a set of Continental ExtremeContact DW. (for another car I drive like an idiot in) They have more road noise than I expected, and when they wear, the channel for rain to evacuate narrows. I use them only in summer time of course, but spring and fall always bring healthy showers. Should be the opposite since when the tire wears, there is less surface area for water to evacuate.

I am leaning towards the coveted Michelin Pilot Sport 4S in 255/45-18. I am dealing with what I have, and I understand this is far from ideal. Thank you.

Far be it from me to dissuade anyone that wants to PSS or PS4S. If your only objections to the DW were noise and wet performance the Ventus V12 evo2 does both better. I’ve driven like a lunatic on both versions (evo and evo2) down to very low tread and never had a problem even in heavy rain. Compared to various other tires they’re the quietest I’ve driven.

I'm on my 2nd set of DW tires and have had no trouble in rain in probably 60k+.

The Sports replaced the DW. As far as I know they both had great ratings in the wet.

I am Brainwashed on Michelin product. They are typically the best at uniformity.

Please note, UTQG treadwear rating means nothing between brands unfortunately. This blows my mind that this has not been corrected.

My last set of tires were PS A/3+. They were significantly wider than the PZero AS Plus I have on now for a test. Both were 245/45r18. Both were/are plenty grippy. I would not hesitate to spend a few more bucks for the Michelin product.

I concur with BudRacing, I've run Continental DW summer tires on my V and on my Subie and found them to be excellent in the wet. Never had any issues at all. Pretty sure the DW has been discontinued (replaced by the EC Sport), anyway, so I suppose it's a moot point.

Thinking about going with the conti's for my next go around. Have always had great results with BFg but man for some reason I talked myself into the all season sport comps and they are total crap. I'm convinced they are out of round. Wheels are straight and they have been balanced so many times it's not funny. Still have a little vibration around 80. Just want a softer tire I can get a couple years out of.

Anyone run the mickey street comps?

I cannot speak for the tire in the V-size. What size were the Subie tires? Interested cause as tires sizes differ, so do tread variations. Thank you.

I never had mine dynod but I was running an 8 rib setup with an 8” overdrive balancer, stock rears for most of its life, and a 2.7. Car ran good and made around 10lbs but I’m far from stock so I don’t know what this would make on a stock car.

+1 on the Ventus V12's, I've been running those for years!

branland - have you thought about a cam or sending your heads to be ported by TSP? both options are under $1,000 and would probably net you the extra 30 hp you are looking for unless I missed something in your signature.

option 2 could be a pulley and meth which should also be under $1,000 for good quality stuff.

Tuner said it was making only about 6.5 lbs with the 2.8 pulley. The heads were done, but the bowl work decreased the compression ratio slightly.

I'm going to leave it be and just add the nitrous later. The block was redone to handle handle the nitrous.

Ran out of money (got married) after I purchased the dedicated fuel system from Nitrous outlet. Hoping to regroup next year and get the bottle, warmer and nitrous controller. The block is suppose to handle 900, but I'll looking to run a 200 shot.

Received Creative Steel cradle bushings! Hoping to have a weekend full of installs ranging from cradle bushings, other poly goods(granted they get here in time), to Kooks headers, to Datsun stuff.

Side note: any of you guys located near Atlanta? There is a transmission for sale that I have been in desperate search of but the seller has no interest in shipping to my area. I would love to network with someone here who is willing to help a fellow racer out since this guy could give two F***s about helping me. If this is an inappropriate area to ask I apologize in advance.

I'm in Atlanta and my office has a warehouse with daily freight pickup. Shoot me a PM and I may be able to work something out for you.

Wish I could help, and I can offer you encouragement like "you can do it" and "go get 'em, tiger".... I ask about the Datsun; Z or 510 or hardbody?

P.S. What size tires on what size wheels on your black V?
