Default V1 aftermarket D1s ballasts

first you tape the new ballasts to the new mounting plates you made.

then you do a little cutting, soldering, heat shrinking, and reassemble with the new parts (including new 6000K bulbs).

finally, let there be light!

finally got these stupid headlights working. the drivers side ballast that i swapped back in that was supposed to be good was junk.

i have a bunch of leftover plates if anyone else wants to do the same thing!

Thanks for providing a parts list and what wires you had to modify. Real helpful.

dammit, you.

2x hylux ballast, 2x 6000K D1S bulb - both from diode dynamics.
1x sheet (12x30) 6061 aluminum that i cut and drilled in the same pattern as the stock ballast (shown below).

two wires going to ballast. the 'large' pin is the ground, the smaller is +12VDC. cut the harness you ordered with your ballasts (+$10) and wire the white (end pin) to the ground pin wire, wire the black (middle pin) to the +12VDC wire (assuming solder and heat shrink tubing...or electrical tape, i guess).

connect all connections, bolt everything in, power up headlights. enjoy not having to pay $150+ for a new ballast.

i love you brian.

Thanks for going to the trouble to put all that together!

I'm guessing you replaced the ballast because you had a stock one fail?

No bar is complete without a mason jar...

One small typo. The printed sheet shows 128mm, whereas your drawn template has 127mm. This is life or death!!

my drivers side ballast has been out for the past two weeks so i took it upon myself to replace them with units that'd be cheaper to replace down the road since i plan to drive the wheels off this car.

and there's a mason jar up there out of frame.
