Default so...I need 1 more inch!!!

It's lowered on H&R springs right now, and I just need 1 more inch (don't we all! ) to tuck the top of the tire.

I have the cradle down right now, since I'm doing upper control arm and trailing arm bushings.

Has anyone cut H&R springs before??
Not sure if I should cut 1/4, 1/2, or full coil for that extra inch.

Any suggestions?

Oh and yes I know a lot of people don't like to cut coils, but for 1", I don't mind doing it, and not worth the extra money for coilovers.

I hope it looks good, because it's going to ride and handle like ***. Will relocating the front spring perch and using more spacers on your rear shock mount relocation not get you there?

really? I thought H&R springs were already the lowest spring you could go with?
Why not just cut the stockers if you just want it dumped?

I have the eibachs on mine it is a perfect combo of looks, functionality and driveability. I am able to jack it up without getting it on planks before hand. Hit speed bumps without hitting them at an angle. And the performance is great. Have yet to rub anything.

Typically I like my cars slammed but it comes at a price. I did not feel like having a car that rode like *** and bottomed out and scraped on everything. Not to mention have a 5 step process just to jack the car up.

Ugh. It's gonna ride and handle bad enough with those springs. Pony up for coilovers if you drive it ever. If you don't, just take the springs out and look at it parked. It's not a civic.

Eibachs were the lowest from what I have seen. I believe they have two different sets. Im not a fan of cutting springs personally but a lot of people do it.

my money is going elsewhere on another project right now, so coilovers are completely out of the question. Ive had the H&R springs on since ive had the car (about 3 years) so im used to that ride, never had stock suspension. My tires are on the thinner side 245/35. I just hate seeing the 1'' fender gap, and I don't want to go with thicker wall tires. I don't think itll ride like crap with just a 1/2 coil cut off on the rear, the front I might be able to get away with a thinner rubber spacer between the top of the spring and the body of the car. we'll see. I guess since no one has done it, ill start with 1/4 coil first and see where it sits.

i found your problem. those are way too short.

please go back to the right size tire and get bigger wheels if you're after the "low pro" look. making a car look good has never been budget friendly. don't be a hack.

There are other options vs cuttin springs.

I am not a fan of cuttin springs

You can trim the excess metal on the shocks top and bottom which will give you more drop

Add more weight

Typically I am against cutting springs as well, and I would have never imagined people would be doing that to Vs; but there are plenty of people who do it with great results. Even the v2 guys cut their springs and there doesn't seem to be too much negative stigma that normally accompanies cutting springs. We are lucky that our springs are springs are linear and it really does not yield any negative results from cutting.

I think I might end up cutting my stockers down the road for car shows and what not, but I like the functionality of my eibachs for daily use.

OP I say get one size taller tires and cut a little off the springs. Taller tires will also help with the ride, because it will more than likely ride like *** once it is that low.

Swapping or trimming the rubber isolators should get you the results you're after. You'll probably rip our your fender liners over bumps though. I've done that with just H&Rs unmodded. I'd actually like to shim them up 1/2". My 245/45 tucks currently and I'd like to have it even.

So after almost 2 weeks of waiting for my bushings, I finally got them and was able to install and test drive hard, also got that extra inch, front might need to come down some, I'll wait until the springs settle. So far it doesn't ride much different than before. Also got around to...

Got rid of my silent magnaflow exhaust, and went straight pipe! Loud and so mean sounding! Just have to weld the magnaflow tips back on.

My carrier bearing was shot, so I cut it all out and welded a plate to the back with the bearing in the center (doesn't touch) and filled in the void with loctite sl 10 or something like that, its basically 30a polyurethane in liquid form. So far, it's great!! No more vibrations or clunks!! And only cost $10. We'll see if it holds up in the long run, regardless it's still better than the thin oem rubber housing for the bearing. Oh and I never had to break apart the driveshaft!

Anyway I'll post pics tomorrow, it's to late now.

Cut 1 full coil on the H%R's all the way around. Since I might need more low on the front, I'll just cut the rubber spacer. It rides pretty much the same.

Quick Reply: so...I need 1 more inch!!!
