There are a variety of online GM parts databases. I checked one, and it showed the gear set for the 1st gen CTS was not used in the 2nd gen CTS; it was only used in the 1st gen CTS, SRX, and STS. It's not necessarily a definitive answer, though, as they don't even show the '08+ gear sets being available separately - you have to buy the complete diff assembly.
A cradle from a second gen cts is what you are lookin for, not v2
Uhhh..thread title is "V2 to V1..."
What did I miss?
EDIT: Ah; I see OP wrote "base V2 CTS" so tripped up by an apparent oxymoron. Really we are talking base CTS cradle with V2 drive guts? Would the V2 cradle not work?

Sorry, I'm braindead to begin with but still don't see how you could get correct 6 lug pattern. "I found that a front wheel bearing hub from an 03 Pontiac Aztek (ironic?) will work. It's 33 spline, 5x115 bolt circle and the speed sensor is the same as ours, but needed to be re-drilled. I welded up two holes and had it drilled to 6x115". You weld or close two holes and redrill 3 more?? Which two? Thanks.

Many V1 owners are looking to also move to 5-lug to increase their options while decreasing cost for wheels. 6x115 is not common though I have added Kubota small- and mid- sized tractors to the known list.
unless of course you already own set of 6 lug wheels you like...
sell them and buy any number of 5 lug wheels that are more than plentiful. you can even have the exact same wheel if you want. it'd be simple to source.

well, per quick research it looks like the V1 hubs bolt right in so i'm not entirely sure why we're making it so hard to modify a hub in order to be 6x115 when the stock ones work just fine...
both bolt circle diameters on the inside are 4.567" and 3 hole...so they bolt up. the differences are the speed/ABS sensor (V2 doesn't have it), the bolt pattern for the wheels (5x120 vs 5x115), and the studs being 14mm instead of 12mm.
