I have a pretty good feeling it'll hold up to abuse that is a bit more substantial as well.

My comment was both sarcastic and comical. There are only a handful of V's making over 450RWHP / 450RWTQ anyways.

I can't see a HUGE amount of people jumping to throw $9,000 at a rear end.

What's the difference between the 9 inch/12 inch rears? Benefits/pros of each? And also details/comparison on how the C3 rear stacks up against those. Gratz.

Very understandable not wanting to spend so much on a rear end. The rear end is - in a way - not horrible to deal with; however, if you are wanting to extract immense amount of power out of a 427 CI engine....well you got to pay to play.

Please do not get me wrong. The car will offer the performance of the 8-cylinder, but the rear wheels will tend to hop more in certain situations (i.e. launching and other situations i'm sure).

I am definetly going to seek such power from a CTS-V - not many will be like mine, and that is what I want.

I searched for a sedan that will allow me to enjoy pleasures of the performance aspect. I could have easily purchased an EVO or an STI, but damn I would absolutely love to have a luxurious car (or at least close) with a 427 CI heart which of course the CTS-V has been engineered to do (the CTS-V has been tested for the track at nurinburg, germany) - my kind of ******' sedan.

I suspect that the custom aluminum 9" housing is the big cost driver.
Has anyone look at squeezing the 9.25" diff from the Ford Expedition in?
I'd like to see someone break that...

I think it's the consensus of both aftermarket shops making rear setups for the CTS-V is that the rear diff isn't the only problem. The two-piece driveshaft contributes to wheelhop and bursts of torque on the carrier, not to mention the axle shafts. A better pumpkin will take more abuse than the stock one, but to properly drag launch these cars and not eventually kill the rear you need to eliminate wheelhop, and that's when the driveshaft and other components come into play.

After MANY MANY hours chasing a vibration, its been shown, there is more to a 2 piece shaft than just absorbing wheel hop.

Its got to do with critical speed and whipping of the shaft.

As for wheel-hop, its virtually non existent with My kit, I have no clue on the other set-up.

Do all years of the CTS-V have this rear end issue? Why in the world would GM put out such a nice sedan with such a crap rear end design?

These stock rear ends only give problems at the 1/4 tracks right?

For the road course they are ok?

I know this has probably been covered, but at the risk of being obtuse, has GM made any OEM changes at all to the 06 or 07s for the rear ends, or are they making them exactly the way they did in the beginning years? Did they ever spec out an improved rear end?

So is this it? Did no one ever come up with a viable solution for these rear ends? I want to get into a V for my next car, but I don't want to walk into another situation where I have to reinvent the wheel to live at the power levels I want.

9K isn't the end of the world if it's only 9K one time, ever...

I'm sure this has been tried, possibly. But... is there really no other diff that can fit the V? Maybe a diff off of a Vette or something else?

sorry if repost.. I just really want to get a V , but probably wont because of the diff issue...

edit: how about a gto diff? I am just throwing out random ideas with nothing to back them... but come on, nothing for a decent price?

GM didn't make the rear diff, GETRAG did.

There is a cast iron case (not wishware) that GETRAG has made, and there are pictures of it.

Unfortunatly, neither GM, GETRAG or GM Performance parts seems to be interested in diff aftermarket stuff.

RATS.

so... no clutch dumps and no burnouts.
