sorry if repost.. I just really want to get a V , but probably wont because of the diff issue...

edit: how about a gto diff? I am just throwing out random ideas with nothing to back them... but come on, nothing for a decent price?
It's not like the tear up every other day. There's not even that many owners that have had one fail. Most are just replaced due to the whining. So, unless you just can't live without going to the drag strip every weekend then there's no reason not to get one. Ok, well there may be some reasons, but you get what I'm saying.

well thats not bad then... I mean i see people saying they go through them every 10k or so and thats kinda scary... those that this does happen to, I wonder how high they dump the clutch at... I'd probably be ok with 1.5-2.5k launches... Thanks for replying though, I appreciate it. I also had a lot of input from Heavy and will be going for an 05 or 06 . theres just nothing else for that money in that class...

I've put 20k miles on mine, and its been driven pretty hard with a few hard launches on the street and more wheel hop than I care to mention and it held up alright. Though it only took 2 hard launches at the track to blow it apart. Then there are people like Stkshkr who puts almost 500rwhp down, and made hundreds of passes at the dragstrip before tearing it up. It's all in how you drive it.

I only have my 2005 a week and broke the d/side shaft right at the spline. not much found or any upgrades other than some saying to go to 2007 shafts. That's useless as far as I can tell since the spline and spider gears are the same.

Default Rear diff?

There is a cast iron case (not wishware) that GETRAG has made, and there are pictures of it.

I can not seem to find any pictures or info about this.Where did you see it at?
I just can not see paying $9k for a rear diff. There has to be a more reasonably affordable way to strengthen this diff. Machine a replica of the factory diff from stronger materials?Something!.....$9k is way too much.

I've skipped a few pages of reading here, but would it be possible to put an STS(V) rearend in? GTO rearend? I have no idea if they're even physically possible, just some ideas, and sorry if someoneelse previously has said something.

I found out yesterday, the STS V has the same rearend we do so that knocks that out of the question. It being an auto puts less stress even though it has more power.

btw, capown, we're both on dfwstangs and in dallas

For $9k, you could break & repair/replace the stocker a couple times couldn't you?

Absolutely.

you could buy a roller f-body and put your motor in that for 1/2 the price.

Roller? I just bought a high mileage 01 WS6 for $8500. And with a few more hundred in minor bolt ons it's running better than most CTSVs at the dragstrip. Add a good nitrous kit and even the fastest ones would be a spec in the mirror.

I like the talk of the Viper rearend i've been hearing about... i saw one on ebay for $325 buy it now and it was brand new! Pretty sure those are pretty bullet proof considering some of the #'s i see out of twin turbo'd stroked vipers.

Damn. Those LS1 F-bodies are really holding their value. I bought a convertible 6speed, 94 Camaro from the original owner with 99k for $10,000 in 1998.
For $8,500, you can't find a better all around package for drag racing.
A 9 inch rear and a LSx engine is the combo for a drag car IMHO.

drag and cts-v should'nt be in the same sentnce as we all know the outcome,
straight lines are short and boring... it's a waste of time and money to wait in long lines
to stage for 2 mins and push the peddle for 10-13 secs...i would rather slug myself
in the nutz.
autocross is the shizzznet fo' sho'! it takes money, enduarnce, skillz, and weeds out
you dirty fingernail bozos with bad breath from askin me stsststooopid questions.
lmfao! teeeee heeeeeeeeeeee!
