I just asked for an STS rear end and they didn't know if it would fit! I told them to try but they just started to put the 06 V rear in. Dammit!!! Do you have the BMR anti-wheel hop bar, contact Jeff at Specter and ask him about his Wheel-hop fixer...

Just my $0.02. If you do a search, the STS diff has a different gear ratio than the CTS-V.

If it fits, speedo would need calibrating.

I talked to him earlier today. They installed the STS-Vs housing with the CTS-Vs gears.

structurally, anything is better than the 05 rear diff. THe 06 diff has a stronger design yet it sill whines...

Oh, i have about 10k miles on mine and i've had it for 5 months, all city driving!!

I haven't seen a comparison of the two diff's but its worth a try. I will say that all of the whining is caused by the defelction of the rear gear pinion angles and the how hot the rear oil gets.

Just and FYI for everyone as there was some confusion on this, they put the 06 diff in my car, the way it was explained to me coming from Getrag, is this is the new housing design based off the STS with 3.73's. It is the only replacement rear diff. for the CTSV now, as the older style is long gone. If you get a warranty replacement, this is what you get. I did not get anything speacial or different from what everyone else it getting now.

How long before the "whine" started on your 06 diff ? I got mine replaced because my old one was wining pretty damn loud, I hope this new one doesnt develope that. With my new wheel/tire setup I have almost no wheel hop, and I have a BMR pinion support that I might put back on, but it did not stop my first diff. from getting the whine problem, so I dont know that its worth anything.

What the hell is the "whine" ****. How loud is it? Are people only seeing this problem with the 06 diff?

my stock 04 diff had the whine, I am on my first 06 diff, and so far so good. The whine on the old one was terrible though, after about 30 mins of driving you could barely hold a conversation in the car....

Default diff

The 06 diff is the same thing. All they did was load up the outer case with rib stiffeners. I did however buy a pair of 2006 axles. They are 1.5+ " in diameter.

yep, the 06 diff's whine. It was almost 1k miles into the new diff that it started to whine.

Silverado: THe whining is the rar diff making a gear whine like a trans gear into the rev band and off the throttle. OH, just like reverse!! That kind of whine but much deeper in tone.

ITs annoying as hell when you know its there...trust me, dont look for it!!!
