Default New V Grille Finish

If you had the opportunity to influence GM's decision making process in a particular finish for the new V-series grilles, what would it be? Keeping in mind of course this grille should still be able to differentiate itself from the trim levels beneath it - for example, the current stainless mesh says "V" not just CTS.

GM has eliminated the mesh and has taken the next generation V-series grille to a molded plastic design in a platinum finish. Though not in production yet, some of us have seen it up close (pictures, auto shows, etc). What's the vibe out there?

In the provided poll, I would like to check this vibe by asking is the new grille a 'wow' or 'I can change that' or 'I wish the finish was different' (maybe black chrome?)

We all like to personalize our rides and the topic is subjective, but what if GM offered something so unique that changing it would be considered sac-religious...?

Hmmmm....30 views and no opinions? What gives? Is the grille a non issue? Is there another site specific to the V that I would more response? Would it make any difference if I said that I am a member of the Sales team of the company that sells and manufacturers these grilles for GM?

Maybe if you put up some comparison pics I'd be able to give some input.

How's this. Assuming we all know what it looks like today, this is where it's going.

What you can't really see unless you're up close is the Platinum finish (a plating process just not bright).

I like it ok. I think it looks a little nicer when the holes are a little smaller. Kind of like a fine mesh. Either way a stunning car and grill

I like the large mesh on the new car. Just wish it was a wire mesh and not plastic.

Those that wish the stainless mesh were in place. Reasons?

If the aftermarket offered a stainless 'knock-off' to replace it (and I'm someone will), would you do it?

I dunno. IMHO the grille wouldn't feel as cheap if it were actual wire instead of plastic. Not that I go around feeling grilles all day...Hell even a billet grille might not look too terrible.

That's hilarious...I do feel grilles all day as I'm in the grille business. I work and sell for the company that manufactures this gen and the previous V grilles to GM.

That's what I mean by a 'vibe'....maybe perception would have been better. You know its plastic but would prefer the metal. Funny thing is you really don't know either way until you actually feel it. Hence, the question in the poll..."I wish it came in another finish". I feel choice of finish should have been one of our select metal finishes to give it that 'feel' (i.e. Black Chrome) but they opted for Platinum.

I like the mesh because it seems a little more high quality even if it isn't. I feel like I'd be getting ripped off by a plastic grill just because the price of the car demands a better material.

May have been a combination of reasons (price being one of them), the stainless mesh is very expensive compared to the molded version.

I own an '05 V and I really like the wire mesh grill. Haven't seen the plastic ripoff, but I am sure I would like it less! Plastic (a petroleum biproduct) is never quite the same as REAL, despite the efforts of molding experts to duplicate it. Let's use the petroleum to power our engines rather than to replace our cars.

Besides, if you do have a little mishap, I would bet a good body shop could restore the wire mesh grill to looking like original, but the shattered plastic ripoff would be history.
