Default cts v noob Qs

in the process of selling my camaro and am looking to either upgrade to a gto or cts v. i found a couple ctsvs in my area and the cheapest one ive found was an 05, with 74k, black, stock for 20k + dealer fees etc

is 74k more miles than i should be even considering for these cars?

also what are the weak points for the cts v? thanks

any info appreciated

74K is way too many miles for that kind of car, you can easily find 04's with 20K miles, these cars were rarely driven. I bought mine with 26K miles on it.

only if it was a GM dealer that could warrenty it till 100k. but you are better off going for a 25k car that is still under 50,000 miles

I don't know. For only $20k, if it checks out to be in good condition - clean body, clean fluids, drives well, good tires, etc, etc, etc...

That is a lot of $ saved over paying $25k-$26k for a '05 with less miles that only has a year of warranty left anyway.

Check for a whining differential, leaking fluids anywhere (radiator leak isn't always apparent as the fluid doesn't always get past the underbody plastic to the ground). The CD & Nav should be checked ... those things (CD, NAV, DIFF, RADIATOR) I would say are the big ticket "common" items to look for as far as replacement cost goes.

But if you can save $5k and can afford the possibility of needing a $2.5k-$3k diff replacement and whatever else, its up to you. I have seen other go past that mark and into the 100k's without a serious issues.

Remember the car is still only 3-4 years old. Wear items like brakes, rotors, and clutch should also be considered as these items don't typically last through 70k miles.



On a side note, I know of an '05 with 41k miles under warranty til Feb 09 that can possibly be had for $23k. southeastern PA, PM me if you're interested.

by the time you replace a few of the normal stuff that breaks on your dime. the headach is worth the extra cash to me, more so when i dont have a extra car anymore :shrug:

I'm nearing the 50k mark on mine, and absolutely no complaints outside of a rattly arm rest that was fixed under warranty and a Tremec issue with a batch of trannys that was also replaced under warranty.

Just like any other car, as long as its been taken care of and you take care of it, I wouldn't have any worries what so ever... $20k is a helluva price for a $50k+ luxury sports sedan.

Pads and tires don't last long on these cars regardless, so 74k miles just means your ready for the 3rd or more set instead of the 2nd

CarFax, look at service history, call dealership(s) if possible.

There are a lot of good V deals out there if you're willing to travel. With gas prices going up and leases ended on the early V's more and more are showing up now. Be patient and research.
