Default Rear End Gears...

Does anyone make aftermarket gear sets for our cars? I'm looking for a 3.42.

+1, and what would it entail from a cost/complexity standpoint?

Default Gear Set

From what my technician friends tell me, the 3.42 gearset from a standard CTS will interchange with the V gearset. I believe that someone on this forum has already done this and you should be able to find him with a search.

Instead of rear gears, I was looking to change transmission ratios and probably still will. Our transmissions have a unique synchronizer set (triple cone) that makes regular MM6 T56 gears unusable in our cases. From what my research tells me the Corvette transmission internals (also triple cone) are compatible.

The STS-V has a 3.42, and should be similar in strength, etc. to the 3.73 in the CTS-V.

I have a 3.42, which is a CTS ring and pinion. It is a drop in fit to the point that no shims were needed whatsoever. However, the CTS pinion nut ending is different, and all you need to do to match it to the CTS-V is saw off the ending. I like the difference a lot. 2000 rpm in 6th has gone from 71 mph to 79 mph. First gear is noticeably higher, but I can still start in second. Gas mileage in town is about the same, and mabe 1-2 mpg or so savings on road.

I just saw you posted about doing that in another thread and sent you a PM, probably while you were typing that.

Thanks for the info!
