Default Emissions equip ?

I need assistance with the smog system on an 02 f'body. It's not really an F but is a 93 hybrid with an 02 PCM. I'm guessing it will be tested as an 02 so I need to know what stuff I need on the engine? Thanks in advance.

You'd have to check the website but I would think you'd either just go by whatever the limits are for the 93 model or you could fall under the "hotrod" category.

You need all the items that the car originally came with. They don't care what the engine is. If it had EGR, AIR, CAT(s) then it has to have them. As far as testing goes I have no idea where you are located. If in Ontario then www.driveclean.com

Thanks everybody. The original motor was a 3 liter Variocam Porsche and if it is like my 2.5 in the 944 then it's cats and tuning. I think i should visit some clean air inspection places and ask some naive questions. The website doesn't get into it and there's conflicting info on the rest of the www.

It's not the inspection places you need to worry about. They don't do the visual anymore. If the vehicle passes without the required equipment it passes. The roadside inspectors is where they nail you for missing emission components. The last I heard it is $420 per missing item.

I found a couple of sites but this one has the 'Act' in detail and it seems there are two areas that have to be addressed. The first is Emissions equipment and the second is the test. I don't have a problem with either.

I've heard of these so called road side inspectors...but I have never in my life seen these guys...what are the odds you would run into them?

You can always just go to those sketchy shops to and have them "pass" your car if it really creates a problem for you...

They like to setup near car shows and race tracks to catch the car enthusiasts. They were setup outside TMP last summer when the Arm Drop event was on.

TO add to the post above, the officers are extreamly rude and arrogant. They have OPP usualy back them up. The beginning of the season is the worst time. They have already started with transport trucks, which has gone on for the past two weeks. I cant believe the amount of tickets being issues hourly. Its unreal.
Pickering car shows, basicaly the east side show are the hardest hit. They will ticket you for every infraction possible. They now pull you over and measure cat temp. Its easy to ticket for missing emmision componets, but not sure how hard it is to fight a failed roadside component ticket. To make that stick you have to prove that the driver knew or tampered with an emmisions component.
Flame is right about the armdrop event. They had an anouncemet at 10:30pm warning anyone leaving the gates. It was reported that 60+ enforcment vehicles were dispatched to the area and set up on various intersection leading out of the venue.

I wounder how bad it will be this year. I honestly dont fell like pulling out my car anylonger.

I heard about the sting operation they pulled at the arm drop event. I think that kind of **** is total B.S...I heard guys were getting their cars towed as well. I mean, talk about not promoting racing at the track. I know guys who unhook emissions stuff or unbolt the exhaust before the cat only on days they run at the strip...Make no wonder so many people streetrace...if guys risk loosing their cars or getting raped in the *** in tickets when they take it to the track, these guys would just as rather keep it on the street...

on the up side...if they are issueing tickets on a hourly bases... best thing to do is fight it...clog the court system...usually anything over a year for the court date gets tossed if you file some motion that you did not recieve a speedy trial and that goes against your rights, or something to that extent...Just ends up being a waste of time for us, thats all...
