Default carb success..just do it, u will be happy

Just a quick success story. I did a carb conversion for a friend on his max effort NA combo. It required alph-n tuning before the conversion and it was no fun to drive or start. I put a 850 race QFT carb on it (my favorite carb) and changed his Aeromotive EFI regulator to the an Aeromotive, multi port carb regulator. The QFT was almost perfect out of the box and required little effort to tune in. I dropped the sec jets from 84 to 80 and the pri needed to go down one step. using a WB, WOT is at 12.8 and cruise is around 14.5 to 14.9. it idles 14.0 AFR @ 980 RPM. the cam is a solid roller around 265 @ 50... the car now runs great on the street and track. We did not pick up big HP on the hi end, but driveability was worth the effort. There is still some work that can be done on the timing curve, but he is haveing fun driving it for now.

Another carb success story huh? Good to hear, the ease of tuning and the lack of cash to make it run right makes it a win for allot of us.

How much power was gained on the big end? Usually the most is about 25, that isnt a ton, but it is more than EFI usually every time.

We have not put it on the dyno, but it gained 3 MPH in the 1/4. 120 to 123 consistent.

NICE! I bet it responds to a few degrees more timing with the carb setup, compared to the efi tuneup

348ci, 11:1 comp, big afr heads (22x ??), vic intake, 1 7/8 headers, true dual 3", and a solid roller cam in the 265 range. Sorry I do not know more about the heads and cam. I think the car has more in it with a little more tuning.
